So, tonight I got my car back and after a while the battery was dead. I replaced the battery and everything seemed cool. After driving and revving it up, the volts on my voltmeter drops to 12... (Running off the battery). When I stop at the stop sign, the voltmeter climbs back to 14.0. What's the deal with that? Any suggestions?

Why do you think its my alternator? Its only got 300 miles on it, but maybe its a rebuilt that is defective. Why would it charge sometimes and not others? Is there a such thing as an alternator belt being too tight?

Why do you think its my alternator?
Because you said your voltmeter drops to 12.

There you go.
Why would it charge sometimes and not others?
Because it's defective.
Is there a such thing as an alternator belt being too tight?
Yes. But that's not what's wrong with yours.
