Many Problems

I have a 96 Eclipse non Turbo, 5 spd. It has 127k the only mod the has been done so far is a cold air intake.

The problem is that the car runs very rich, there is black smoke that is coming out of the tail pipe. Also after the car warms up the motor starts to sputter and then it dies. It will start back up but will die again in about 30 sec. If I wait about 10 - 15 min it will start back up and run ok (still very rich). the last problem is that it will pop out of 5th gear.

Any help would be awesome.

Have you tried replacing the spark plugs? I would check those.

I change the plugs and wires about 2500 miles ago. But i got cheap one??

I would try a new o2 sensor. big_d

do you guys think that the coil pack has anything to do with these proplems

Ok so I thought that it could be the O2 sensors so put in some mil eliminators. the car idols better but it still starts to sputter and then die after 20min or so. any idea would be great. do you think that it is the ECU or cam sensor.
