Help. When I go out and start my 1990 N/A DSM in the morning it clatters from the drivers side of the motor. I think it is coming from inside the plastic cover over the timing belt (new belt). There is not very much power when it makes this noise. It wont go away until it warms up a little. Please help if it is a bad prob I want to get it fixed ASAP.

Oh one more Q my DSM is a 5 speed do I have to use a ECU from another 5 speed car or can I use one from a auto?

Just a guess , Ciould possibly be the hydraulic tappets, bleeding off oil pressure. if this happens valves wont fully be opening until they pump up. try doing a compression test with the motor cold a nd the again after it warms up. make sure you put some antisieze on the plugs, you can damage the threads on an aluminum head when you remove the plugs from a hot motor

Ya, the clatter could be from the lash adjusters. Some people including myself have gone to a Mitsu Oil filter. And It did't make a difference. Results may very. What weight of oil are you running, Brand?..I actually tried 50 weight oil to get rid of it. Made it worse. not recommended. Multi-weight oil is better. If I remember right, the #4 cylinder is the first cylinder to get oil. So if its coming from the driver side, then its probably the lash adjusters on the #1 or #2 Cylinder. Keep in mind, my car has 160K, and it has had a hard life. I rescued it from an idiot who knew nothing about these cars or cars in general. So the oil was in bad shape when I recieved it.
