Help with temperature guage

I have a 1996 eagle talon tsi and anytime my car is at WOT the temperature drops below the middle and when i let go of the pedal the temperature guage goes back in the middle. So in other words the temperate guage is moving backwards at WOT. Any idea what this might be?

Bad temperature sensor maybe? it goes for less than $10.00 at autoparts

yeah i had this happen to my car and it was a loose connection on the temp sensor near the coolant fill cap. look around in that area and wiggle the connections to see if its loose.... might just want to replace the temp sensor too
