Ok this question goes out to all of you guys who work on cars daily because I am completely baffled by this. I am having a problem with A/C that I have narrowed down to either the switch or the wiring to the relay.
Symtoms:
A/C compressor does not turn on when the swicth is on but the compressor is good (I will explain later.)
Diagnosis attempts:
Check Relay (good)
Check charge. (system full)
Check the high and low pressure switches. (Both with in spec)
Now I was stuck here for a day because according these test the system should be working. The only thing I could think of is that the control switch was bad but the light comes on like it is working properly and I have not been able to find instructions on how to test it other than the test I performed.
Testing of A/C control switch:
1) Locate relay and remove it.
2) Figure out relay orientation. (the relay only uses pins 85, 86, 30, and 87a. 87 is removed all together.)
3) Once orientation was determined I used my meter to check for proper operation of the wiring for the relay since my earlier check showed the relay to be good.
Results of that test:
Pins 85 and 86 were getting a good 12v (85) and ground (86), but here is where it got confusing. Pin 30 was also a constant 12v. Now from my understanding of this system, pin 30 should only receive 12v when the A/C control switch is in the on position so where is my problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice that is given to me in this thread. I will also add to your rep in a tech thread because it is technical advice that I am receiving.
