Ok Im very new to the 1g into 2g swap. This is my first one but i been working on 1g for a while now. I can setup timing on a 1g with no problems.

When I put the timing light on the crank pulley it reads under 10-15 BTDC. On a stock 1g timing is 5 BTDC I know that. Ive left my CAS fully retarded right now and its 10-15 BTDC. My motor is a 1g full swap head & block 1g timing cover. There shouldnt be any difference doing timing right. I put the timing light wire on cylinder 4 sinces its that new cylinder 1 right? Actually I did it both ways both are at the same place.
 
I'm a little confused by your post, but i'm getting that you are doing a 6bolt into a 2g. Before you started the car did you manually check the timing? After you initially set the timing did you let it sit for about 15mins then check it again? Pertaining to the firing order, it's easiest to keep your 2g coil pack and keep the same firing order. Coil pack(4123), motor(4321).
 
Im confused now too... You said number 1 cyl moved? I didn't know that was possible. I was under the impression that alomst* all 4 cyl's had the number 1 cylinder as the cylinder closest to the timing. atleast thats how every car I have ever worked on is.

Also, are the coil packs the same as the 1g in that they are the DIS waste spark? which is why 1 and 4 would show up the same on the crank pulley mark. On a 2g do they have the wire like the 1g that you have to ground to set BASE ignition timing?
 
You can't set base timing with the car running on a 2g unless its a 95, (or you have dsmlink) if its a 95 you have to connect the wire on the firewall to set base timing. If its not a 95 and you don't have dsmlink disconnect the fuel pump wire to cut fuel. Then have someone try and start the car (it should'nt start) while they are trying to start the car (engine should be turning over but not starting) you check the timing with a timing gun and set it.
 
On a 1g there is just a single wire connector running along the firewall and the connector has a cap on it. just take off the cap and ground it.

if not then there is a way to set the base timing without dsmlink... using a scan tool from mitsubishi. just as a last resort. i have the service manual from mitsubishi explaining the procedure if you need.
