I own a 92 Tsi awd. The car has never idled right since I have had it. Originally it had a
2g throttle body. So we installed a 2g MAF, 550's, SAFC, along with a 1g throttle body, which doesnt leak, brand new gaskets. The only problem is it only idles like crap when its cold. In the morning when I start it, and if its warm like 90 degrees, it idles fine. But, when the air is cold in the morning it feels like its sticking at 1500 rpms. I can actually take my foot off the pedal and roll for a second or two without it slowing down. After I take off, and I'm waiting at a light it bounces from 1000rpms to 1300 rpms. And continues to do this for about 15 mins of driving.

The TPS has been checked. The ISC is fine. Sprayed WD40 around the TB and nothing. I imagine this problem will only be worse in the winter when its 20 degrees in the morning.

What could it be? 2g MAF leak? Intake manifold leak? Wouldnt it idle like crap all the time then?

Another thing, I cant make it stall with the idle screw. I screw it in all the way and it still idles at 750+. Shouldnt i be able to stall the motor with that screw? I can lean in it out when it does this with my SAFC, but isnt that bad for the motor? Even at low rpms? I also have a brand new 02 sensor. AC removed. Colder thermostat installed and TB coolant bypass was done also! Anything else you wanna know to help me?

I would like to know:
Why didn't you start your own thread for this problem?
Why can't you seperate things in a paragraph form to make it easier to read?
Why did you start putting on go-fast parts like injectors and AFC when the car wasn't running right?
Why you didn't search for "Idle problems"? That's a very talked about subject for 4g63 owners.

Why must every clause. Have its own. Sentence? It gets kind of annoying. To read threads written like this.

Clean up your grammar before expecting anyone to help you. Then, re-read the site rules and do a little research next time.

I am new at using forums. And I put fast parts on my car because i like to go fast. I went 13.4 with this car. And about 50% of the people i know with a 1g have idling problems. You guys can be very rude sometimes. And I did search idle problems. Nobody has the same exact problem as me with the same exact mods. And if they do, i didnt see that post. My car never idled right because i had a 2g throttle body on there before. Reason for that is because my old 1g tb leaked. So i had no choice but to run that for a while. You guys are suppose to know it all! Thats why I asked you. If you dont want to help me, thats fine. I will go somewhere else where i can be welcomed. You guys are too strict about posting. I am new at this stuff. Cut me a break. Its like learning a new language for me

Try re-running the coolant lines how they were originally and check that the idle switch on the TB is working.

Try using carb cleaner instead of WD40. Be careful.

Are you using the idle adjustment procedure when adjusting the BISS? Grounding out the electrical connectors?

Go to the link and look under intake and idle surge. The adjustment procedure is in there too.

Hi there I'm having the same problem as you and have had the same problem on several talon and laser 2.0L turbo and non turbo 1G stock cars .

I am also having trouble finding a straight answer on this problem I've always just lived with the problem

These forums all have idle surge and hot start idle trouble shoots but none that directly address this specific cold start problem that is very common with all 1G cars

Mine all seem to be the same as your description when the car is stone cold it will first start up and idle high for about 8 seconds (1800 RPM)

Then the idle will begin to bounce rapidly from 1000-1500 RPM until the engine warms up 5-10minutes

and then runs great all day long, idles great, starts great, drives great, until and only when the engine is totaly cold will they idle bounce violently again

I would love to get some help on this specific problem as well it must be very common as out of 20 some 1G cars i have owned I have had at least 8 with this exact same problem

My cars for the most part have been totaly stock so I wouldn't be to hasty to blame your performance upgrades

so if you find any help or solutions please post it .

Also please note this is a "newbie forum" so all you pro's please take it easy on us we value your help and knowledge not so much your put downs thanks
