An electrical problem?

I have a 1g Laser RS Turbo FWD, 5spd. My stereo (stock, tape variety with EQ) has recently become possessed I believe. Whether its on or off, the time display will flash rapidly with a clicking noise in time with the flashing. If I turn the radio on, it cuts out and goes to the time display and flashes. Sometimes the display will display the "Tape" symbol and then it usually goes back to its little flashing routine. Any thoughts?

It sure does sound possessed. I would think that since it is 14 years old I wouldnt even be suprised. Just either find another stock one or go with an aftermarket one.

Also make sure it is grounded good. Mine had some freaky crap going on with it. Would work alright until you turned the headlights on then it would cutoff and start the blinky blinky crap. Found the ground wire was broke fixed that and everything was good. Then I yanked the stock unit and put in a pioneer and everything is really good now.
