I am having a new issue with my car. The car is 90 tsi with a fully built motor. It was my friends project car that was given to me. The car has only started once up untill today. The motor is fully built with rods, pistons. port polish head. blue printed, balance, lightened fly wheel. turbo back 3" exhaust no cat. no ac. The motor may have more done to it, but my friend past awayed, and I have no way to find out except to look at reciepts.

When the motor first started two years ago we started great, and ran fine. We were doing the break in on the motor before doing the driving break in. We shut it off and would not start. would not crank. Any ways my friend had to go out of the country for work for a year and did not have a chance to work on it till he got back. He got back and did work on it for a little while and then he passed away.

present (two years later). I get the car and discover that there where two ground wires not connected to anything and the starter was fried. I replaced the starter and conected the grounds and put a brand new battery in. The car started for the first time in two years. But there is some issues. It sounds like the car is running on three cylinders and idiles around 2k rpm. I have an aftermarket boost gauage and it is reading -15 vacuum. When I give it gas the engine starts making horrible sounds and will only go up to 5k rpm and the boost will drop to -20 vacuum.

I am going to check the spark plugs and wires and make sure that they are still ok, but I want to see if anybody else has any other ideas?

Well I wou8ld drain and change all the fluids, do a compression check along with a boost leak test. Also check your timing and make sure the car is getting good spark, fuel, and air. Check your set screw also, its called something else but i always forget the name of it. Wellm I guess thats it for now let me know how it turns out.:thumb:

forgot to mention that I already replaced all the fluids and also drained the gas tank and put in 4 gallons of 92 plus a little heat and fuel fuel cleaner and let it run for a little while, but still does the same thing. I will check the compression, but wont have a chance untill wednesday becuase of work. Timing was dead on before, I will check it again to make sure it never jumped.

Set screw? Are you talking about idle adjustment screw?

I will have to get a spark plug tester/light, I will test that and see too.
