wont start.

it cranks. starter is new.
fuel rail has fuel.
plugs spark.

just wont start. usually crank it every few minutes till the battery dies.

sometimes it coughs and tries to start. im thinking the injectors arnt getting the fuel to the cylendars. but can they all fail at once? this just happened one day suddenly and there was no problems leading up to this.

any ideas?

You say you crank til the battery is weak.

Try testing the voltage across your battery terminals.
You need more than 12 volts to start these biotches....

If your battery is indeed weak, take it out, take it with you so you don't have to pay for the core charge, and go and buy a new battery like an Interstate, or Die Hard.

Ok... I have searched through the forum trying to find someone else who has had the same problem... This is the closest match though the problem is on a 2g... The car belongs to a friend, who has me doing the work since I have done so much to my 1g.
The head was swapped to a 1g head due to a leaking valve guide on cylinder 3 which was causing the car to smoke and run poorly - 0 compression on #3 and 150lbs on 1,2 & 4.
everything was meticulously reassembled, and when it was time to start it back up, the engine cranked over - all day long, but never starts... it stutters like it wants to but never does.
1. The battery hooked directly into a starter pack to insure full power. When cranking is attempted.
2. The fuel pump is working - very audible, and the fuel rail drains out fuel when return line is removed from rail. Engine gets over fueled after trying to crank for a long time(Plugs soaked in fuel when removed).
3. Each cylinder is getting spark: tested each sparkplug wire with an extra spark plug. The car has a brand new set of NGK BPR7ES plugs, and new Nology hotwires. Both the coil pack and the transistor pack were tested to be good.
4: Mechanically, the timing is dead on... all the marks line up...but I am not sure about electronicly... being that I am used to my 1g, the different cam position sensor and addition of a crank angle sensor has me at a loss. I dont know how to test those to see if one of them are not operational. I tried changing the cam sensor 180 out, which made no difference.
5. The temp sensor on the lower side of the thermostat housing has been checked for broken wires and tests good.
6. Air sensor is plugged in good, and the O2 sensor is new.

This really has me confused... Everything is the way it should be... But the bastard wont start... Please Help

that last one sounds alot like what ive gone through.

ill double check timing, although im pretty sure its dead on, maybe the battery is just failing but to check the problem ill hook it up to a starter pack to make sure its got full power. and ill test the voltage and then ill update. thanks guys.

my friend had a similiar problem and my other friend said check you ecu fuse he did and it was burned so maybe its your ecu fuse

EDIT: ophlimitz this is off otpic but i noticed that you live in lee summit 20 miles away from me

haha really. where do you live!

well i got it started by hooking to a starter pack, i think the battery may be alittle weak. its 3 years old but it is a die hard. i rebuild the engine last year and it may have just had too many deep cycles and now it doesnt like to hold a charge completely. im going to have it checked out. thanks guys.

well it started for a while fine and then today it just randomly didnt start. took the battery to be tested and it tested alright. charged it up completely and still wouldnt start. i think i have a loose wire or a short some where... think that might be accurate? guess ill start double checking connections.

I had a similiar problem in my 90 GS-T only a week ago, I had fuel compression and spark then I would lose spark intermittently. Turned out the back side of my coil pack was loose and would only spark if it was pushed in. Might be a long shot but it worked for me.

I'm not going to get involved if you don't check back to see posts on a daily basis and then give responses.

I would suggest you check cam timing, do a compression check, and check for spark. You need a manual, you need a 12 volt test light, small jumper wire(s), starting fluid. A cheap DVOM would be helpful.

I suspect ECU, cam and/or crank sensors though cam timing may play a roll.

Cheers
