Whats up guys, the other night me an my dad replaced my passenger side front axle an everything went soomthly besides the spline on the axle being froze into the front hub but got that taken care of so we put everything back together but now when i drive theres a humming noise above 25mph an when i turn to the left even like very slightly it goes thud, thud, thud, thud, thud an if I go to the right everything is perfect no noise no thud an its really annoying any of u guys have ideas?:sosad: :talon:

tighten the axle nut, wheel lugs, brake caliper.did you replace the inner cup that goes into the tranny?

Possibly a wheel bearing. Mine did the same thing except when I turned right instead of left. To check, jack the car up, and grab the top and bottom of the wheel and rock it in and out. You or have someone else watch the ball joints and tie rod end to make sure those aren't moving. If you feel movement and its not the tie rod end or ball joints then make sure everything is torqued to specs like gurmanator said. Good luck.

well i replaced the Steering joint, then axle nuts on there right an i gotta check the wheel bearing im thinkin that might be the mishap here cause when i cruise normally it makes a humming noise so im hopin it is the wheel bearing

To help diagnose a wheel bearing jick up the car with one hand at the 12 oclock position and the other at the 6 oclock position try to rock the wheel it has play its probably a wheel bearing. If you put your hands at the 3 and9 oclock positions and and theres play probably a tigh rod end or inner.
Good luck

Humming at highway speeds is definitely a wheel bearing. Do the diagnostic checks as mentioned above for all the wheels to see if any others are going out too.

Edit: Out of curiosity, why was the axle replaced?

Cracked boots an there was a minor crack on the axle itself so jus decided to change it

This just started to happen to me a few weeks ago. My car makes a thump thump thump while driving, and I can feel the thumps in the pedal/floor of the car. Along with that my wheel shakes and my car pulls to the left with my hand off the wheel, but is fine when I have it turned to the right. So assuming it is one of the problems up above, how hard/ and long would it take to fix one of those issues? I have videos I can post to, because there is also A hum that occured shortly before hand. this all started when it got cold out.

How hard would it be to change/ fix all that is what I'm wondering, I can't afford a shop to, and wondering if I can do it myself

here is the link to my video, you can here it right after my BOV LOL. That humming noise is newer to, it came when the it started to get cold out.

I just checked my tires for play, there solid, so I guess that eliminates my bearings?

tire could be tight but bearing could still be bad. i think if the noise came after you put your axle in and you said you had a hard time getting your axle out then the bearing could have gotten damaged .

I did not do anything with the axle????? Im not the OP I have the same issue tho. This started for me a few weeks back, along with the humming (the hummung came first) I had 16in tires in the front and 18in in the back for a while because my one of my rear tires had a bubble and I needed a temp fix. Not I have on all stock rims/tires but its till there (not as bad).

watch the vid I posted, you can hear the humming, thumping and see my wheel shaking

your car is awd you shouldn't put different size tires you will damage your viscous coupling in your trans

I found that out after driving on the 18's for a couple months. Here I took some pics. My friend told me my camber angles were off, so could that be what it is, my wheels do lean inward

Ball joint, broken bushing, wheel bearing, or lowering springs with a bad toe problem, lower control arm damage... You're basically just going to have to take the wheel off and inspect everything in there. I personally would be removing components and inspecting them individually until I found the offending culprit.

Kinda looks like Sportlines with no camber shims and alignment issues. Wheel bearings take a beating also if the alignment is off, especially if lowered.

I have no lowering springs or anything, my suspension is all stock. I have stock ride hight. Here is a stupid question, but other then losing my tread, what other damage am I doing? I NEED my car to DD to school and work, and that is all I do all day, wake up go to school, straight to work then home at about 11 at night. I wont have free time until spring break to actully look at my car. Can any give a estinate on how much a shop will charge me to fix this? I am tight on money this month too.

I also jacked the car up today and checked for tire play, they are all solid. no back and fourth movement

Yeah....this is probably a start of some sort of problem associated with your tire size. A two inch difference is HUGE. They say even a a few 32nd's on your tire wear can cause problems. At the rate your tires were spinning between the front and the back, I am actually surprised nothing happened immediately.

I can see the inner wear of your rear tire, that is the only visual damage. But besides rubbing making the humming noise, your issue lies within your drivetrain. Unfortunately it could be in the transmission, transfer case or rear differential. I would swap transfer cases first because that is the most headache-free install of the three. If you change it out and your humming goes away - problem solved.

Ok but I have an Auto? so would that make it harder to find a transfer case? and what about driving on it until then? like I said I cant afford for my car to be down.

I believe they are all 23 spline transfer cases except 90's. I don't think the auto one is any different.

It could be drive train. If the hum is constant, rises with rpm, and is unaffected by turning, I would suspect drivetrain problems also. I just find it very strange that you would have that much negative camber on the stock suspension.

Yea thats what I am thinking to, but yes my suspension is stock. the only things I have put on the car is a K&N airfilter and some gauges, and a shift box. The Humming does go up and down with RPM's and is there even in park/neutral. But a thing I noticed today driving to school is that the thumping sound comes from the front of the car (can hear it and feel it) But when I brake it moves from the front to the back, and I dont mean switch, I mean it kind of roles to the back if you know what I mean. Like it just does not go front, back. It is more like front, between me and front, under me, between me and back, and than at the back. I can feel it move its weird.

Are your shocks/struts definitely good? If not, that can result in tire bouncing (thump) and resultant tread cupping.

There a little rusted and dirty, but dont look to damaged.

I have not felt anything wrong witht he suspenion, and I know what a bad suspension feels like, i had a car with bad springs
