I finally pulled the ECU and behold, leaking caps. I seem to remember reading someone in this group either has caps available or knows where I can get them. Please let me know.

I have contacted a local guy who used to make boards. He will put them in for me.
He may be willing to do it for any of us for a fair fee.

TIP - Now that winter is here static electricty is easily built up on your clothing.
Before diddling around inside an ECU (or similar) you must ground yourself or wear a grounding strap of some sort. A static jolt to an ECU is about the same as you being hit by lightning.

www.vfaq.com has more info on the procedures in teh electrical section.

TYVM just checked it out. All three cost 75 cents.
I don't know if I afford that much. LOL. My experiance is that if something is too cheap problems occur. Are these good quality or are caps just inexpensive in general?

Yes and yes.

What people are charging to replace them isn't based on material costs but on the time involved to replace them without damaging the circuit traces and to test the ECU along with the investment in knowledge as to how the ECU works, what else to look for, and how to fix the problems when the leakage damages the circuits. Naturally some are better than others at this. :)

The balance of the board is spotless as well as the area around the caps.
I looked at both sides under high magnification. All that seems to have happened is just the leakage. Should i have a local just replace them or should i send them to someone you may recommend to change them? Do you know an experienced person to do it?

Any TV repair shop should be able to perform the work... Expect $10 shipping for your CAP's...

If not, www.dsmchips.com (also known as keydiver chips) has been around for a long time, will socket your board for you also if you ever plan on getting DSMlink, or even purchase one of his chips...

Good luck :thumb:

Send it to Steve. He's the man when it comes to ECU's. :thumb:

Steve never offered to replace them for me. I would be more than happy to have him do it. I really need to get this running. I was hoping to get it to my son for Christmas. he totalled his Honda that he was in love with. This all I can afford for him at this time.

Bob,

I'd be happy to help you out but the closest person to you that does quality work would be Dave Mertz of ECMTuning in Rockville, MD http://www.dsmlink.com/contact.html

If Dave is too busy, you can send it to me. The contact information is on the page linked to the "my webpage" under each of my posts.

Since I'm not a vendor here, but a user, I try to follow the site rules regarding self promotion.
