So I was merging into traffic on the freeway and I went to shift into 5th gear and I had nothing...so i tried for 4th....nothing....my shifter seems to be in a totally different place than where it should be. The only gears I were able to find were 1st 2nd and Rev. All of theses are very hard to shift into...i mean i have to like slam my shifter very hard to the left and either up or down for 1st or 2nd gear, and half the time it still wont grab it. Lots of play in the shiter....I mean i dont even know where to find neutral.....feels like a cable broke, but if thats the case, why can i still get 1,2 and rev? I triend the shifter adjustments, and they are no help. If anyone has any idea please let me know.

If you think a cable broke or came loose why not look at them? Check to see if they are moving. Before you destroy your tranny.

Unhook the shifter cables from the tranny and try to put it into gear manually from the engine bay. If you can put it in all 6 gears, then it's the linkage. If not, you've got a tranny problem, most likely of the shifter fork variety.
