knocking problem

did a small rebuild. still leaking a little bit of oil from the oil pump, im pretty sure. regardless, started and ran fine for a couple days, cept for a piss poor acceleration problem, found my plugs were gapped at 32, so i regapped those. but at the same time the engine developed a knock and i know for sure its not the timing. i double checked that. took the valve cover off (which cracked somehow, i think from shot screw holes) and checked the valve train which looks ok but i could be missing something.

anyway. any ideas on why its knocking?

What did you do? Replace any internals in the head / block?

took apart and cleaned all head parts but didnt replace any. re honed cylanders and put in new rings. replaced most gaskets include head gasket.
