So heres my problem. I just replaced the alternator, belt, and battery in my 95 tsi. The belt doesnt make a sound when the car idles. When I rev it up or move it squeals. The belt squeals no matter how tight I make the belt. I checked the connector that plugs into the alternator and theres a burn mark on it. I guess it fried when the alternator or battery went. Ive been looking for a connector but cant find one. Is there anything else I could do besides buying a harness off of someone? Do you think this is a valid reason for the belt to be squealing? I thought that the connector being shot is making the alternator spin slower than the belt itself? Any kind of info or suggestions would be much appreciated. thanx ernie

hey man. did ur belt squeel before ur alt went up. And how did it go up. Maybe the belt is bad got streached some how, happens to old belts. You could try some belt dressing. If the connection is bunt and the wires are good then the connection is still good. How many volts is the alt putting out now?? Maybe try cleaning up that connection could work

are you sure its your alt belt squeeling? i believe you have to take off your power steering pump, in order to mess with your alternator. what about your A/C (if equipped) check to see if all the peices of your A/C belt tensioner are there.

i had a problem with squeeling upon initial startup and i found the problem to be the nut holding the tensioner pulley on for the A/C belt was gone making the belt loose enough to make a really bad noise on startup. but i would bet its your power steering pump belt.

remember that there should only be 0.5 inches of play in the belts on the longest side between pulley's.

I know its the alternator for a fact. It doesnt squeal when i start up. It squeals whenever the motor goes over like 1500 RPM. I tried the old belt and tried a new belt but still the same thing.

I thought I originally put this bit of information in when i first posted. It doesnt squeal when the connector is not plugged into the alternator. Once I plug it in it squeals as described. Thats why I was confused.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but the alternator changes tension with load (harder to turn with lights on and other accesories) thats why it doesn't squeek wiith the plug off. This also means that its not charging your battery as you probably already know. One thing I experienced with mine as well as other DSMr I know, is that if you're not using an OEM alternator belt it'll most likely squeek and more likely to snap prematurely as mine did. I then replaced it with OEM and all is good again.
