Ok, I know alot of people have similar problems but dont ask the same questions, or at least dont get the answers im looking for. The problem seems to be common. ill try to explain it really good so its easy to understand: I turn the key and get a click. It does that sometimes, yet not others. usually about once every two weeks. It will start perfectly fine, then one day ill get in and 'click'. The battery is clean and working fine. The starter is not pulling current and i know that because i checked the voltages (battery had it starter wasnt receiving it). a weird thing is that if its doing the clicking thing it wont start, but if i go inside and come back out later, it will. i didnt touch anything, but it starts. it also starts on a push start. on a side note, there is an aftermarket alarm which works sometimes but not others also (but the times when the alarm works does not correspond to the starting problem. just threw that in there as yet another possible cause). well, thanks for whatever advice you guys can give me. I just dont want to go buy a new starter and still have the same problem which also seems to happen alot.

It's the alarm. I couldn't tell you exactly what to disconnect and take out etc... but I can tell you that you're having a problem with your alarm. Most alarms have a starter kill which is enabled when the alarm is activated. Sounds like that's what your problem is. Hope that helps you out some because I hate fooling with alarms. PITA but worth it if they work right.

If you had the alarm installed since you've owned the car, I would take it back and tell them what's going on. They should be able to fix it.

Thanks. the alarm must have been put in by the previous owner, and i dont even have a book for it so i get the pleasure of working on it myself. that alarm never works right so if its gone i wont miss it. i guess its time to follow a lot of wires, take it out and see what happens.

Good luck with that. Take your time when doing it though. Let us know how it goes after the alarm is removed. Post any questions you may have during the removal, don't guess.
We're here for ya :) :thumb:

it proved to be a 10 minute job...for now. i took off the lower part of the driver side dash and hello there was the control unit for the alarm (Excalibur brand by the way). just disconnected the 4 plugs going into it, took it out, looked at the many wires and said 'ah hell no'(its a rainy day). as far as i know there is essentially no alarm system in it and the wires that were going to the module dont even matter as long as there is no module. the car starts fine and everything else works...but the alarm LOL. i disconnected the battery and reconnected it just to make sure i took out the right thing and yup..no chirping in my ears. ill let ya know in about two weeks if i had more starting problems. i would like to say it was an easy fix..but the problem would come and go..so i dont know yet. :laser:
