just bought a new head from a fellow dsmtuners member, i also got arp head studs, mistibishi 4 layer metal hg, new intake and exahuat gaskets, new vc gasket, my problem is the compression is very low and the car will not turn over, i think its the hg becuase i read you need to perfect surfaces, but should'nt the car run, just would boil over coolant?

Run a leakdown test on the cylinders to see what kind of shape the head is in, it may also have some out of shape valves. Was the car in good running order before you swapped the head?

my car was in good running order besides the valve stem seals went on my old head. that was my only problem, i just got a rebuilt head of someone on here and thought it would be easyer to do the swap then rebiuld the head i had my friend is going to get a leakdown tester and check it out. hope its not the head and its just the headgasket.

if it is the hg then use an oem much easier to seal. You almost always need the block and head decked to get a metal one to seal. In fact just sell that one as you can reuse metal one's. I used a oem one on my first hg install and it's fine. Also what torque did you use on the arp's, did you use the assemby lube, and did you torque them in order?

i did not do the work my friend did he said he used the lube and i dont know if he did them in order? alsot orked them to 81 pounds i think i am not sure on that i have to call and ask him later, but i know the block head were not decked for sure. I think i should get an OEM, i hope its just the headgasket issue but would the metal cause low compression?

sorry but 81 is way too low for a metal gasket with ARP's try 95 or higher...look on there site or call them for the spec can't remeber....actually look on vfaq I'm sure it's on there somewhere. Yes it would if it didn't seal. Their just hard to get them to seal thats why I din't do it, plus I don't intend to run over 25psi on this head gasket anyway.

Also what do you mean "won't turn over" need more info

okay i talked to him he did them in 3 steps 60-80-then97lbs also in the correct order
