Alright my mechanic recently swapped in a 6 bolt nt into my 93 eclipse... everything is done except we cannot figure out what the problem is with my starter. The starter appears to not be connecting with the flywheel, and we've tried both starters. We were originally thinking that maybe my starters were both bad somehow. But then we got the idea to try them on my old blown motor, and they both worked just fine. I havent talked to him today but i'm pretty sure he was going to rewire the starter and see if that changed anything, but I didn't hear from him which means it obviously didnt work. He even measured both flywheels and everything and both appear to be identical... Please help me, I have absolutely NO idea what to do and i'm getting desperate because i've spent countless money redoing everything under the hood..... So anyone that has any idea what could be wrong please post.... I'm open to any ideas. :(

I'm having the same issue except my car start but it just doesn't sound right. It sounded like my starter doesn't quite reach the flywheel or something. I have a 93 AWD Eclipse (7 bolt) and swapped it with the 90 AWD talon (6 bolt). I did some research and found out that the starter are the same on 90 to 94 but the flywheel (according to the Prostreet online part number are different for the 6 bolt AWD to the 7 bolt AWD). Does anyone know if the 6 bolt motor and the 7 bolt motor very a little in sizes ofr construction that can cause the starter to mount farther away from flywheel which causes the bendix to not reach or fully reach the flywheel? My other theory is that I have to swap out the tranny also to make a perfect match with the 6 bolt motor. All DSm experts please, help any and tell me if my theories are correct. BTW, I have the ACT exact for the 6 bolt flywheel in my car right now.

hey anyone with any info plz post... I'm doin all the searching that i can and i'm not really coming up with anything.... does anyone think its possible that i mite have an awd flywheel or somethin in a nt bell housing? I'm just thinkin of options here... So anyone with any input on what could possibly be wrong. Please help out a couple fellow dsm'ers and post. Even if its just a guess i'm open to any options. Thanks everyone

i ran into this when i put a 90 tranny in my 93 talon, (these were auto) but anyway, i found out that there is a long nose starter and a short nose starter, the 90 tranny had to have a longer (90) starter...maybe something you want to check out...or like others have said it could be a flywheel thing... :dsm:

notice the difference in length and front mounting flange thickness...
