Ok, to start off I still have the problem of it falling on it's face at 4000rpm, but will run great up to that. Now a new problem has occured, A moth ago it wasn't reaching full operating temp. about 130-140 I know very cold, anyway I replace the thermo with a car quest brand and know it warms up a bit fast, and stays at 217 or so I know thats why to hot for about 10-20 degrees out side. I know compression is still good so it didn't warp the head at least I hope not since it's got maybe 150-200 miles on it. My data logger says 217, but my needle is still in the middle where it should be, also it warms up fast, but stops dead in the middle. Also I noticed my coolent looking a little dark, may just be all the crap I scaped off and what not, but tend to think the worst about things. Could a seal be broke in the turbo, casuing oil to mix with the coolent?? It's a long shot, but maybe. also I put a late 1990 maybe early 1991 water neck on a 1990 gsx, could that mess up the ecu?? Also the ecu maybe a late 1990 early 1991 in a 1990 car which is a big no no. But if it was a 1991 ecu in a 1990 car would it even run???? I just need some info, plus I got the boost guage installed, but haven't ran it yet, because I don't want to damage any work I have done so far. I bought this car in june, and spent a month researching and planning the head swap and then it has this problem ever since. I still haven't drove it very far, and haven't started it in about 2 months. Mainly because of the snow and cold temps, but I really need to figure this out, once it's running I can start on my other project my v6 stang will have a sc v6 in it. i just need to get this problem figured out, look at my past posts for more info no codes have been tripped yet. and I have replaced the fpr, coil packs, spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, drain fuel, replaced injectors with good known ones, JUST AT A BRICK WALL....I'm begging for help know as I spent 600 to let someone tell me they didn't know much, and I knew more than them.

As a last thought I did a log run at WOT before the coolent problem and at 4000 when it went flat onj it's face I got 7 counts of knock on a stock engine, except for a little head work and evo mainifold.

Just need help bad no one in IOWA has no clue, If anyonme is close to Des Monies and wants to help let me know, I need to get it running before summer for sure as I will be taking it to UTI in IL

thanks for your time,

Derek J Gideon

Anyone I really need some help, I forgot to say I did a boost leak test and I didn't think I had any leaks, but my vac at idle is 15-17 which I read is supposed to be 18-20. Also was 217F bad for the engine or will it be fine. I need to know, because I know the stock is 195, not sure what the one I bought opens at, but what should I get 180,190,195 what need help bad

thanks
Derek

ill try to be a little help... if you think that the oil is mixing with the coolant the best way to check is to take the dipstick out and look at it..you will know the difference between only oil and oil and coolant..also i would smell the oil because if it smells like coolant than you know you have a leak somewhere....that is the best way to do it...as for the temp. as for the temp rising..i would say that before the thermostat install you were running about 130-140 and now after its about 217 so it has to do with the thermostat..i would prob say get the 190 one because that is the closest to stock and also since you said that the coolant seemed like it had "stuff" i would def. drain the fluid and put new fluid...

I plan to put new coolent in and flush it, it may have been the old water pump gunk or just old coolent, it sat for about 1-2 years. I just need to figure it out, It's probly the t-stat, which is why I'm ordering a OEM one, but 217 how bad is that on my new head.

thanks Derek

New head.

Funny how more and more surfaces if you just let it sit.

Perhaps you've blown your new head gasket.

Did you replace your radiator cap with a new one when you did the thermostat? How old's the water pump?
