I got a 92 eagle talon 2.0 non turbo automatic. The car will turn over but will not start. Ive spent hours and hours replacing things, Coil, cam sensor, ECU swap and traced the wires from the outside of the car to the MPI or MFI relay. (there are soo many names for it.) the car will also start if i back feed juice straight from the battery to anywhere in the ignition circuit(ill hear something power up, i think its the fuel pump.)

When i hold the 2 points in that mpi relay the car will start but when i let go it dies. So i went and got a new relay, put it in and still wont start.

Any ideas?

what two points are u talking about?

do u know why its not starting? if there is no fuel or spark coming? id check that first and go from there.

the points on the MPI relay they go back and forth i guess when you energize them. If i hold them to make the circuit they car will run. I only get fuel and spark when i hold the points on the relay otherwise i get nothing anywhere.

if you turn your key to the on position so that all the dash lights come on, does your check engine light come on too? Look specifically for the CEL. If the other lights come on but your CEL doesn't, it means your ECU is not getting power.

Its red and sits just to the left of the steering colomn. It says in black letters, CHECK ENGINE.
Sweet, then that's MY problem anyways. The light never comes on... I hate to hijack threads, but what should I check? I plan on pulling the ECU and replacing the caps; would that possibly fix it? Or do I need to check things to get power to it? (BTW, my symptom is that it cranks but doesn't start because there's no spark).

For anyone that may care, I did not ground pin 8. I instead went with my gut and figured it was the ECU. I pulled it, popped off the cover, and sure enough the caps had leaked a good bit into the PCB. So, the replacement came in today, I plugged it in, and it started right up. Now I just need to pull it back out and replace the caps on the new ecu before they go bad.
