I've been having performance issues with my car so I checked my timing (it was a real PITA having to jack up the car and crawl underneath with the Timing gun)

basically the engine idles fine around 7-800ish Rpm.. no noticable hunting/seeking

I checked the timing.. and it's floating aroun ~10-11 :thumbdown

i thought it was supposed to be ~8

as far as I know the CAS is underneath near the timing belt area and not meant to be adjusted...

so that does this mean? and what should I do about it?

I appreciate the help
thanks,

you shouldn't have to crawl under the car or even jack it up to check the timing...

and AFAIK you can't adjust the timing on a 2G without using a 1G cam angle sensor. not sure if you can even use a 1G cam angle sensor on 95-96's

maybe not on a 1G... but I spent a good 45 mins peering through the top of the engine bay on the drivers side.. thinking i was retarded for not seeing it..

I jacked up the car turned the wheel and removed the plastic cover.. and low and behold there it was, it's WAY further down.. I can't even SEE it from above...

i don't think i have some magical 4g63 in my car... but that's what I had to do...

so is it SUPPOSED to even be around 10-11 *? is my car retarded... or should i just let it keep doin what it's doin and not interfere?

Has anyone else checked the base timing on their 2g's ? that I could cross reference with?

holy crap mine is way advanced..

Any ideas what could be causing this? like and improper timing belt install like off by a tooth or something?

and how can I remedy this?

no wonder my car is running like crap at high boost..

I always thought Loggers only shown Degree of advance.

so basetiming plus your 3-4 or whatever. i dont know.

You CAN use a 1g CAS with the 95-96s. It's done when 6 bolt swap is done.

Anyway, base timing should be around 5-8 at idle. When you were checking idle, was the engine at operating temp? I'm going to assume you had the timing gun hooked up correctly to the wire off cyl 1. I don't think I've ever seen it in the negatives. That doesn't sound right. You can always take the belt off and retime it and see if that helps.

yeah I had driven the car for like an hour around town to find a shop selling a decent timing gun, so the engine was plenty warm...

I connected the inductive Pickup to the Cyl closest to the Passenger side of the engine.. (furthest from pulley) assuming the cyl went left to right...That is Cyl #1 isn't it?

number 1 is closest to the timing belt.

your on number 4
