I pretty much reconditioned my Talon
I have a 7 bolt 1996 talon awd. I decided to replace a lot of things, like the gaskets on the turbo, spark plugs, I/C pipes, BOV, intake, oi lines, ect. ect.
I put it all back together, put 5 qts. of 10-30 high milage oil in there. Took out the plug to let my engine crank for about 10 seconds and fired her up. All is well, but have a few questions:
The oil lifters are LOUD. The engine was sitting in my garage not being ran for about 4-5 months, so I suppose this could it the problem.
Idle is about about 800-900 rpms. Then after about 4 minutes of idling, it becomes kind of rough. I then rev it a little and it smooths back out. Then, after another 5 minutes, it climbs to about 1400 rpms.
the 02 sensor was pretty dirty, and then was sprayed with wd40 when it was removed. I planned on getting a new one, so I just cut the wires as well. Money then became an issue and I spliced the wires back, and dipped it in seafloam to clean it all out. Could this be related to the rough idle?
My friend messed with my TB to where the throttle isn't as springy. He messed with the springs. I am guessing the high idle is because of this.
I am also running an open downpipe, because my apexi one wont match up to the HKS catback the car came with. Could this contribute to any of the above problems? I don't have any grounds to the exhaust either.
A lot of smoke was coming from around the exhaust manifold. New gaskets and tightened down alot. I am assuming that it is just all the PB blaster, wd40, and all types of crap burning off of it.
Thanks for the help.
My mods:
sparkplugs
plugwires
2.5 downpipe
ingen intake
dejon took upper/lower I/C pipes
ported manifold/02 housing
boost controller/boost gauge
Pretty much every bolt on except a fuel pump.
Thanks again
