My car has never burned oil. I put a new head on with arp studs. Ran sweet had a ton of power. Than all the sudden I started it up and I heard ticking in the valve train I thought. Than all the sudden I started the car and it just started smoking all over the place. Did a compression test and it read like 118-113-113-118 I thought it was pretty consistant.. but is it low? It never even smoked before until I put this new head on and it is suppose to be totally rebuilt.

Is it my rings or could it be getting oil from else where? By the way what does the kpa x 100 mean on the compression tester? I actually thought I was getting a 8.1 compression reading. But it really read 8 kpa on the guage.

Oh yeah that is low! Service limit for a 1g is 121 I believe. Sounds like you may have jumped timing belt... do a wet test.

kPa is kilopascals. Your 8x100 kPa would be about 116 psi. Conversion factor is 0.145somethingsomethingsomething.

Go Metric!

Keep in mind compression numbers also change as altitude changes. I've seen a brand new eclipse engine with only 125psi in each cylinder... I don't know how much the amount would vary though...

I would say definitely do a wet test and if you can, a leak-down test. If those numbers come out bad . . . perhaps you got lucky and just skipped one or two teeth on the timing belt and wont have to pull the entire head off to fix whatever might've gone wrong.

I checked the timing and its good...when the engine is at operating temp it does not burn oil. BUt when it is cold it will burn until it gets warm.?
