i just had my head rebuilt and started putting it back together. now the timing marks werent matched up when i got my head back so i used a socket to move the cam to its original timing mark. the timing belt was then put on and everything seemed fine. i went to start the car and it wouldnt fire. i looked at the timing belt and it was back to its false time "180 degrees off" now i have the belt off again. how do i get it back to its orginal correct time? thanks in advance

well i just got done with my 1g but if you have (should have you would think) dowel pins for the cams they should be on the top pointing up. next you should line all the other sprockets up with there markings and then put the belt on and rotate it a couple times first with a socket then take MPI fuse out and crank it over then put it back in and start it. It should ALWAYS start if you have all the marks in the right place and at the right time. I would consider yourself lucky that you didnt love tap a valve or anything.

There are Threads on this - Every OTHER time #1 is at TDC the Cam Dowels will both be DOWN - then UP, etc, etc. If I understood you correctly you should have left the belt on as it was OK.
