Here we go
I got this problem after the fact my car was done for 24 weeks..and this is what it started to do
Speedmetter don't work all the time..and when it does..it has a mind of its own...here's some pics of it

And no it don't have a cable to the speedometer..I know that..but give me some ideas of what else to check?!

speed sensor on trans maybe.
 
same thing happened to my gf's honda. Check the gauges to make sure it is flat. The needle may go up in rpms or mph, but the gauges may make a stop causing the needle not to go down. Otherwise, you may have damaged the needle. during installation. Take the gauges out and see if you still have the same problem.
