Piston Rings !!!

approximately how much will it cost to get my rings replaced with labour and all ???? my father is a truck mechanic .. is this a job that he could do????

its not that hard to do really....itd prolly cost 1000-1500 if you took it somewhere...a LONG day or 2 to do it yourself......it can be done with the engine in the car but is a LOT easier with it out...look thru the procedure in one of the manuals...its quite involved....the head and oil pan have to be removed, pistons out , cylinders honed, pistons cleaned....and then new rings installed PROPERLY....and everything back together...but like i said...it can take a long time to do even tho it may not sound that hard...if you do it yourself you could prolly get away for around 300 .... rings, and gasket set....maybe get a valve job done while the head is off
