turbo problems...i think...

i have a 1998 gst eclipse. when im driving at low rpm the car runs smoothly and nothing sounds unusual. however, when I punch it and the rpm runs at around 5 to 6 thousand a LOUD sound begins to roar ABNOXIOUSLY. it sounds like a loud bell....and the harder i push the gass the louder the sound gets. im thinking that the turbo is just getting old but i would like your opinions. thanks a lot.

Make sure your downpipe or other exhaust components haven't come loose.

I bad turbo wont make your car change sound really. But if it is a loud sound and gets louder when you step on the gas I would think that it is somewhere in the exhaust. Maybe a loose conection, hole, crack...

ohhh...icic. so its not the turbo? hmm... i guess ill go to my mechanic and get my car checked up. thanks for the feed back.

Yea I don't think it's the turbo...anyway it's probably an exhaust leak of some sort. good luck
