Question 6 bolt and 7 bolt main difference??

Hi, i'm new to the dsm world. And i am thinking that the 6 bolt main was made 90-92, I'm not totaly for sure on that so sombody please let me know. I have heard that the 6 bolt main engines are better then the 7. If this is true then why is that. I want to know any information you guys or girls can tell me about these engines. Thanks.

Ok yes 6 bolts were made fomr 90-mid 92. May, April of 92 is when they stopped making them. After that they put in the 7 bolt and a 4 bolt rear. You can find some 92's with the 6/4 combo which is a great find and you should jump on it if you cant. The 7 bolt engine is MORE likely to Crankwalk than the 6 bolt. Just the way it is. Crankwalk is from the car having no oil pressure at startup and you push the clutch in and the bearing gets weak and yea downhill from there. You can disconnect a wire under your clutch pedal so you dont have to start the car while pushing the clutch in. Big argument over CW, but all you need to know is, it sucks, it can happen to either 6 or 7, and when it does you need basically a new motor

Crankwalk is mostly known in the 2g 7 bolts. Its not as likely in the 1g's 6 bolt or 7. 95 has been a pretty mean year for CW. But its less likely to happen then you think. Alot of people have never had a problem. You only hear about those who do because they bitch about it to vent. I would too if it happened to me.

Help!! Question about 6Bolt FWD + 7Bolt AWD Turbo Swap

Hi Everyone,
I need some help here if you guys&gals know anything about 6bolt+7bolt swap. Ok here it goes, I have a 92' Talon Tubo FWD + 93' Talon AWD. My 92' tranny is busted and my 93' oil pump locked + valve bent all mess up in there. I'm just wondering if I can use my 92' FWD Turbo motor on that 93' AWD Turbo. If I can what I need and what else do i have to do? I heard that a FWD can't be use on a AWD, because of the motor is diff. or flywheel or something. I'm not to clear on that. But if anybody know please reply on this thread so I don't have to spend any money on another AWD Motor.
~Thanks San

1g 6 bolt-7.8:1 compression,bigger rods,bigger rod and crank journals,6 flywheel bolts,can take more power

1g 7 bolt-lighter parts,smaller rods,7 flywheel bolts,wristoin the same diameter as 2g 7 bolts

2g 7 bolt-8.5:1 compression, smaller rods, stronger pistons, smaller ports on the head, smaller rod and crank journals, this is the one you here most about crankwalk.

Alright, well thank you guys for the replys. I learned alot. But do you think that a 92 or a 93 maybe AWD DSM would be a good car? Because I plan to upgrade one as i get more money. My eventual goal is probly around 300-350 Horse Power. Its more likly that I can get the 93 Instead of the 92. So just tell me what you guys think.

If you can get a late 92 with the 6/4. Just takes time to search for it. 300-350 hp wont be hard to acheive in these cars. Evo 3 turbo, supp mods, tuned. But its your money so get whatever year you want.

How much are you planning to spend? You should be able to find a 6 bolt for less than $2500, might be a '90, or '91 though. AWD or FWD?

Crankwalk isn't near as bad(as often) as what people might think.

There shouldn't even be the question of FWD or AWD. If your looking for fun i'd go with a AWD.
You can do the 300+HP in a FWD but either be alright with wheelhop or spend a few extra hundred in suspension... hell my old (basically stock)96 spyder gs-t had wheel hop like mad and that was from a bad front motor mount.

Well I'm looking to spend maybe anywhere between $3000 to $3500. I think that I am going to end up with the 93 AWD. How much horsepower can these cars take without very many problems. I know that obviously if your hard on a car its going to have problems. But will I run into any expensive things with the 93 7 bolt main? And I have heard that the transmissions arent the best in them. How much does it cost to upgrade the transmission?

double post owns u. Our trannys can take a good deal of power. Really the " borderline " turbo on our cars is the big and evo 3 16g. If you go any bigger you usually run into lots of problems. Still expect problems with that turbo, yet alone when the car is stock.

Also the price really varies. If you go with a john shepherd racing tranny.. www.shepracing.com .. its 2k. Everyone runs that transmission b/c well its the best. Stock rebuild isnt near as expensive but the shep tranny will hold alot more and longer.

7 bolt to 6 bolt

ok.......

here is my question.....

if 1gb owners like myself that are stuck with a 7 bolt engine only need to replace the flywheel, why does slowboy sell the kit for the 1gb's and 2g's at the same incredible low low price of $1300. I have even called them for info on the swap only to get the "u need to buy the whole kit" answer.

if i knew that all i needed to do was to get a flywheel for my 7 bolt 1g to swap a 6 bolt in, it would have saved me so much time and money.

the lack of info on the subject though, cause me to go a different route.

just thought this thread was interesting.

There are a lot of things you can do, first pull them out of your 7 bolt.....

7 bolt pistons will fit a 6 bolt block.

If you want a better answers, be more discriptive with your question. Like we have said before. If you don't have the time to create a complete though, people on here do not have time to make a complete answer,

You really need to use the search function!!!!!

Yes, you can use 2G pistons on 1G rods, you need to have them machined though.

You can find the specs o here yourself. I am too lazy to find it for you.
