You don't need to open up the engine at all if you are looking for 300-350 (that's a pretty big range) on I am assuming pump gas on the street. 8k is a lot more than you need.

thanks black, and tevenor, i've seen you around this site for a while.
Black you have parts for sale? I'm planning on doing everything at once.
my major issue right now is the turbo upgrade. i know Hahn makes kits specifically for a DSM to run nice. I was thinking 16G, or LR2??
thanks

7 to 6bolt swap
Hi guys I have a 94 gst and cracked the lower ear off of my engine block. I welded it but I'm afraid she's damaged goods forever. I have a 6bolt block that needs a rebuild. What are the differences in the blocks? I would like to swap everything over to the 6 bolt and race on. Can you guys tell me what I need to prepare for in making the change? Thanks in advanced

Well all you need to do is that get a 6 bolt block rebuilt..and everything else swaps over..on the block itself. and the head still bolts right to the block..you just need a 6 bolt flywheel...pretty simple due to your car already a 1st gen..

Help!!! 6 bolt into 7 bolt car.
Please help me out!!!! Hi,I have a 94' Eagle Talon tsi awd and I'm trying to install a 6 bolt engine into my car. I know there are some diffences in a 7 bolt and a 6 bolt. My questions are: If I keep my 7 bolt head on, could I use the same 7 bolt throttle body, 7 bolt crank sensor, 7 bolt coil pack, and 7 bolt thermostat housing with a little modification? For the 6 bolt block, I need to keep the 6 bolt oil housing, 6 bolt oil pan, 6 bolt oil cooler, and 6 bolt front case cover. Do I need a 6 bolt tensioner for the timing belt? Would all the engine mounting brackets line up? Do I have to notch out my mounting bracket to fit the 6 bolt water pump? Please any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

6bolt motor 7 bolt trans
Was just wondering if a trans from a 7 bolt motor would work with a 6 bolt motor?

are 1g/2g pistons interchangable?
since people use the 1g big rods on 2g 7 bolt motors i figure it would be interchangable, but i still figure i should ask before i buy some crower rods off a 2g guy since i have a 1g. thanks

6-bolt rebuilt crank for a 7-bolt?
I was at Advance Auto today inquiring about crankshaft kits (to save me the time from getting my own machined) and for my 94 block, they listed two different kits. The one was a 7-bolt and then a 6-bolt flange was listed.
http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...pe=529&PTSet=A
That's the link to the part itself, but it doesn't give a description. So is this a 7-bolt crankshaft with a 6-bolt "end" on it or do you suspect that it's a bad listing? I checked for my original year (which should be a 6-bolt) and it listed the same product under that year as well.
EDIT: I thought I'd include the two descriptions to save people the time on selecting cars, etc.
Crankshaft Rebuilders 13820
GE; Engine #G63B; With 1.5" Snout Length & 6 Bolt Flange; Includes Engine Bearings
Crankshaft Rebuilders 13890
OE Forging #G63B; With 7 Bolt Flange; Includes Engine Bearings

A 94 is a 7-bolt. The people at home office have a problem entering the correct info.

I know a 94 is a 7-bolt stock, but the crankshafts seem to have the same forging number (G63B)

This will answer your question:
What is a 6-bolt engine?
What is a 7-bolt engine?
A 6-bolt engine is one that has a 6-bolt flywheel - that is, there are 6 bolts holding the flywheel to the crankshaft. A 7-bolt motor has 7 bolts there.
Along with the flywheel change, there are many other internal changes between the two engines. The crankshafts are different sizes, as are the rods and crankshaft seals. 6-bolt motors have 'big' rods, while 7-bolt engines have 'small' rods. The journal and bearing widths different, although the bearing diameters are the same.
There may also be other changes between the two engines, and the parts are not interchangeable.
Use the correct crank for the year of engine. No offense but sell the 7-bolt and start over. Your car is 91 and the 6-bolt is better to start with.

I know the difference between them. I'm just wondering whether they're pretty much selling a 7-bolt crank with a 6-bolt end on it. Cause that'd save me some money (wouldn't need to get a 7-bolt AWD flywheel )
And getting a 6-bolt isn't an option at the time, and I can't save my block for my 6-bolt, unless you'd recommend welding a block.
