All right, my car is a mess now that I finally asked for a day off work to inspect it, anyway, my brother-in-law says that since emissions was removed, that the ecu wont produce trouble codes anymore:confused: , he works at local dealership so he's pretty knowledgeable about cars in general, however, I think it should read codes. HELP please... I need tom get this car back on the street so I can drive it to school, and knowing the trouble codes would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

You bro is wrong. Taking off the emissions equipment does not cause the ECU to refrain from showing CEL's. What department of the dealer does he work in?

What is the problem with your car?

he's a mechanic. The problem I'm working on right now is a melted O2 sensor that finally kicked the bucket... but the reason I asked is because I think the previous owner somehow disabled the CEL because it doesn't come on at start up. I'm trying to return the car as close to stock as possible to start from scratch. the previous owners basically threw on parts without a plan or a goal. Electrical tape was his best friend in the wiring, disconnected grounds, whole load of bad wiring and missing bolts nuts and skill throughout the entire car.

Must work at a Mitsubishi dealership. Although these days, I suppose all shops are hiring clueless scope-monkeys. This edge of The Collapse began when mechanics started wearing gloves at work.

Yup, that's wrong. Scan it and see what codes the ECU has saved up for you, if you can get enough paper to copy down that list. Then, check to see if the CEL bulb's been yanked because the guy you bought it from knew you'd pass it up if it was shining in your face all the time.
Why didn't your brother-in-law scope this thing before you bought it?
