I really like the DSM cars. I just rebuilt my car with my dad. And now I have to rip it apart again. I'm 18 years old. I don't know enough about cars to do this myself. My dad basically hates these cars with a passion... and I don't have the funds or knowledge to fix my car. The reason I am having this post is 1) anger and frustration 2) I am having multiple problems that I know I can probably search for but am too frustrated to sit and read a 100 forums about the same problem. 3) I love my car and I think I need all the help I can get. I do have a service manual I got with my car for the 1G. I just have a hard time working on stuff by myself...when I have hardly any experience at working on cars. Which I have been really trying to get into a lot since I got my car.

Car 1991 Eagle Talon TSi

Problem
1) Car wouldn't run because the ignition coils went out
2) Car died again because the plug tht goes to the coil went bad ( forgot name)
3) Car wouldn't keep the same amount of power build past about 4000 RPM. Liked to "choke out" as in it wasn't making the car studder..but felt like the turbo came on and off
4) Excessive blow-by coming from the crank case out the end of the valve cover. PCV is new and working on a stock engine.
5) Needs a new ABS brake booster
6) And now my biggest problem is I have a rod knock.

I really don't know what to do with my car anymore. Short of loving the hell out of it...it never ran right from the beginning..and with only 1200 miles on the new engine, I'm really upset. I mean I want to do what I can to keep it...but I don't know what to do. Please help me.

Oh and just to clarify...I fixed the first two problems aready. And I know a lot of other people have had probably a lot more problems. But my life is just in a really bad spot right now...so its really hard on me.

Sell the car maybe:coy: take the money down to :dsm: and get you another car same year and every thing problem fixed. Really you need to tell your dad that the car dont run like it should. and put some pressure on him and tell him what kind of a mechanic are you lets get in the shop and finish what we started. That is what i would do if i did not know what i was doing.

Ok well first after doin the rebild and getting everthing done the forst thing you shoulsd have done was a boost leak test. That could be why you feel the lake there of power and feels liek the turob is coming on and off. Secondly with only 1200 miles on the rebuild did you let the enginge break in, or just hop and go. Casue if you did not do proper breakin your rings could have have been seated properly and this will casuse alot of blow by.. Also check oil level casue after a rebuild you should def not not have rod knock, unless you did not check bearing clearances.

Yes we did check the clearence on the bearings. And I broke the engine slowly...about 700 miles before I hopped in and there I went. And you're right, I should have done a compression test. I should have done a boost leak test as well. We never got to them. We planned on checking the rings actually tomorrow night. but i guess thats not going to happen now. I have to figure out the noise now. My mom heard it and instantly confirmed my fears. Rod knocking. :(

This is wrong, the correct way to break in an engine is by actually getting on it.
The combustion pressure is what seals the rings, and if not enough pressure is used to help seal those rings before they wear into the cylinder wall then the engine will never seal tightly and always be a leaky and perhaps slow engine...

And also fix your typing its bearly legible.

Bad build... I have been thru one of these....

My question to you then would be, what went wrong in your build and what can I check to make sure that when I rip the engine apart and put it back together I make sure I do it right. What kinds of things can i look for as i disassemble the engine?

What went wrong in my build is that I was naive and went to an incompentent builder just because he was doing work on a friends car and didnt ask for too much to build it.
He messed up on the balance shaft removal and messed the whole engine up.
Ended up spending another 1300 to get a new engine built. Bunch of frustration, ive almost been thru it all...
Things you can look for in your dissassemble is metal shavings in the oil pan,
bend or damaged bearings, loose wrist pin on the pistons, or anything else internally loose and etc. Make sure you discover why it messed up so you dont do the same thing twice.
