Hello everyone,

Ive been searching the forums and i haven't found what i was looking for so i might as well post a thread. i was driving back to syracuse, NY where i go to school. i was on I-90 for about 50 miles when i started to experience wierd problems with my car. My car felt fine until i needed to pass some trucks. I got into the passing lane and when i gave it some gas i noticed that my car was shaking and i had no power to pass the trucks. i was at full boost with no power and tractor trailers barreling up behind me with no where to go. anyway i made it the rest of the way syracuse(about 60 more miles since the problem) and my car barely made it into my driveway where i parked it and popped the hood to see if everything seemed to be in order. everything looked fine except my engine was having a really rough idle and it looked like the engine was vibrating a lot. ive never seen it shake like that. anyway im not sure what could have happened to it. i havent driven it since and its wicked cold. i cant be in syracuse with out a car. does anyone have any ideas about what could have happened? i dont believe it is a boost leak because i was at full boost. could my timing have slipped? spark plugs? ??? did i blow a gasket? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

First off, check electrical connections of several things:
*Mass Air Flow Sensor
*Idle speed controller
*Ignition coil pack
*spark plug wires (both connections) -- ohm out their resistance to make sure that they are all close to the same.
*Check your battery for at least 14Volts when fully charged, or withthe car on -- Looking to see if maybe the battery voltage is low, close to 10V or so causing the fuel pump to get low voltage.

Check vaccuum connections:
*Check the vaccuum lines going to the blow off valve, the turbo, the throtlebody, the fuel pressure regulator, etc.

Then check mechanical issues such as:
*Base Idle Set Screw (BISS) is tight (and installed) in the throttle body,
*Check the PCV valve
*Replace your spark plugs
*Replace your fuel filter.
*Pull the intake pipe off of the turbo and check for shaft play, ease of rotation, and oil leakage or damage.
*Pull off your timing belt top cover, manually crank it (clockwise) to top-dead-center on cylinder #1, and check all of your timing marks to confirm that it is proper,
*Check your spark plugs for detonation, damage, cracked porcelein,
*Do a compression test (if you need details of how-to-do, ask us for help and we can walk you through it).
*Do a leak down test -- if you have the tools--most professional mechanics have a leak down tester.
*Do a boost leak test (again, if you have questions, ask)

You could have also have a failed knock sensor, a failed O2 sensor, or even worse...a spun balance shaft bearing.

Worst case scenario...I would pull the oil pan after doing all the things listed above. I would check for anything in the pan; metal, etc.
