Tow Hooks [Merged 8-8]
My friend owns a 96 Eclipse Non-turbo (Alot of Mods). And for whatever reason, about every weekend it breaks and about once a month he needs to have it towed (praise the Lord for AAA). Well as kind of a serious / gag gift for Christmas, I would like to get him a Tow hook. But I cannot find any for the Eclipse. I know that it should be fairly long to clear the front bumper.
So my question is. Has anyone ever installed one on a 2 Gen Eclipse? Pictures? Tutorials? and finally, where the hell can I buy one????
Thanks for your help!!!

Installing tow hook how to needed?
Look all over for a tow hook install thread and there isn't one. One guy started one but he bumped his thread and it closed. I'm worried that when I get my 2g on the road it will get something ripped off when it is being towed. So do you think a How to on installing a tow hook, or in my case tow hoop would be useful? Let me know so I know if I should do a how to.

It'll be the rare tow driver who'll have the consideration to ramp the wheels so that the plastic's not wiped off by the bed of the tow truck or the ground next to it. It's a bit fussy running a tow ring with a front-mount in the way, so you need to go through one of the nostrils instead of the mouth. From there, it's just a matter of reaching to the frame, and bracing the connection so that it doesn't flex enough to wipe out plastic anyway.
Might be less fuss to drive it in a way that'll keep you from ever needing a tow.

I'm guessing that 2g's do not have the tow hoops on the front frame rails like 1g's. You could make a reinforced section on your front frame and put a droped bracket and install a cleves or a removable hook that would install with two pins. That way it won't be to low to the ground and bottom out or hook debres. You could just toss it in the hatch until needed.

As soon as I get mine in I'll be installing it over on the passenger side to stick out the passenger side foglight hole.
You can see where Greg runs his.
If the image server i use stops being ### I can show you the larger version of this picture, or you can look it up under Greg's gallery.

They're there, but you can't run a towstrap to them if the winch is more than 4" off the ground. Well, you can, but it'll destroy even stock bodywork as soon as it goes taut.

Local rally guy told me how he makes them. He said you go to the Nissan dealership and buy a tow hook for the Xterra. Then you drill a hole in the frame and bolt the sucker down tight (a nut on either side). Finally, you weld up the nuts. Done deal.
Defiant is right, though, unless it sticks out past the fascia, pulling from any location above hook level will result in body damage. If a rally car needs it's tow hook, chances are, cosmetic damage is the least of your worries...

I'll have one on mine for gravel traps, just in case my car gets buried out in one I don't want to have them tugging on whatever the hell just to get it out of the way.

Need a tow hook for time attack events
I did a search and it didn't come up as very helpful. I need a tow hook on the front of my car that is clearly visible to be able to enter Redline Track Events time attack competitions.
Ideally I want one that protrudes either through the drivers side kidney shaped opening or through either fog light hole and I would like if it isn't permanent so I don't have a ricey tow hook on the front of my car all the time.
Anyone have any suggestions of where I can pick up something that will work so I can go have some fun on the track?

SOADweskey - Here is a link to a tow hook for you. Not sure if it is what you had in mind or not. But it is a good tow hook and it around $40.00. LINK You can pretty much mount this type anywhere you can find an opening for it. I hope this helps
Tow Hook

I've been thinking I should install a tow hook or something on my 2g. 2g's really have nothing for tow hooks anywhere.

Look up tow hoops. They are legal in most organizations, they attach to the vehicle and use the same material as tow ropes and you can push it behind the bumper when your not using it, or pull it out when you need it.

Saferacer.com or pegasusautoracing.com both have tow loops.
Some are hinged so they fold down and don't stick out the front of the car.

Nah....My tires actually stick to the track. Besides, not sliding off the track means I am faster than the car that did slide off the track. I'm still on the track ....(waving at you as I go by)
Sorry....Back on topic
