A good place to meet up in past years has been at Lincoln Oasis on I-80/I-294 in South Holland; it's a good intersection for anyone coming from the greater Chicago area and Wisconsin, and as long as you leave there by noon, you'll hit Norwalk well before sundown.

looks like a good place for everyone heading that direction. I'm not to worried about the sun going down as we all have headlights I assume. So what does everyone say about getting to this oasis and what would a proper time be?

If you left there by noon and cant make it to norwalk by 5, you shouldnt be driving. That would be only averaging about 50mph.

Heh. You just did the math I've done every previous year, which is why I'm not in a big hurry to organize or join a caravan this year.
Let's just say that keeping a large group of hyper-aggressive DSM owners together can be challenging. Add their i-need-to-pee-because-i-drank-5-gallons-of-energy-drinks-at-the-last-rest-stop copilots/girlfriends to the mix, and a healthy dose of I-80 construction, and you have a recipe for a six and a half hour drive.
A suggestion from previous years: have everyone bring an FRS radio and decide on a channel at the gathering point. As long as you all stay within a mile or so of each other, you'll have pretty good coverage, and random outbursts over the radio make for a bit of amusement. (Although, most people seem to develop Tourettes the moment you hand them a radio.)

We were thinking about leaving at 4am saturday morning just to avoid the traffic and get to Buschur's when the open house starts. Then stay there for a while, go to the hotel when we can check in, then take a nap.

I'll try to do the 4am plan, but I have to see how many last-minute things I have to do Friday night. I plan to run my car for the first time, and I want to make sure I have tools and stuff just in case.

noon central time to 5 eastern time is 6 hours. Most people forget about the time zones when traveling. Whenever i travel with a group of car guys, we always end up going at least 10mph over the speed limit. Alot of times way over the limit. If you are going 80/90 the speed limit in IN is 70 and 65 in OH. I think you could stop every hour and still be there by 5.
I live about 100 miles closer than the oasis service plaza. I drove my car to the 118 exit in ohio where you need to get off to go to norwalk in 2.5 hours, so your actual driving time for that trip will be around 4.5-5 hours at the speed limit

You sir have the smallest bladder on the planet, either that or you are just retarded for drinking that much on a roadtrip in the first place.

I will as long as we can get enough cars to do it. If only like 3 people are going to do it, I'll leave Friday night.

This is to early for me. If I was going to leave at 4 in the morning, I wouldn't bother sleeping that night. I need my 6 hours of beauty sleep.

Well as long as we are one large group I don't think we will have a problem with speed to much. As long as this isn't like Cannon Ball Run we should be good. If we start pushing 15+ MPH that is where I will start to back off. My car draws enough attention on its own, it doesn't need the help.

Interesting to know Guiness likes your small bladder. I drink lots to, I'm just used to road tripping I'll hold my liquids almost all day if need be. So we need to decide Satuday morning or Friday afternoon. I'm for whichever is the popular vote. Dave, any chance you can turn this thread into a poll so we can get an accurate count?

To much work, we'll just try to keep track on this one then. They all start at the Lincoln Oasis as previously mentioned. This makehift poll will end on Thursday at noon to keep everyone straight and give people time to pack and be ready. Alrighty, so we have a couple choices. First is Friday afternoon. If this option is chosen, we need to choose a time. Remember, it's about 5 1/2 hour drive. The second option is for Saturday morning. Not sure what time Bsuchur opens but accounting for, let's say 8 a.m. we can leave about 4 a.m. cause traffic will be very light.
I don't know who all wants to wake up at the butcrack of dawn and drive for hours on end but I don't so my vote is on Friday.

Well, I wish there was more of a dedicated DSM presence here in Milwaukee. I talked to a couple guys locally, but they were all like "No, I don't go to that," or "what's that."
