Welcome the "laser"! if you are looking to get more involved in dsms, this is the place. we have had 2 meets in des moines so far and are looking to get involved with more events in the future. we are also in transition between our old and new website right now. if you want to check out our current website, go to http://freewebs.com/twotsis and our new site is at http://dsta.net63.net be sure to check out the new site often as i will be keeping it up to date with new events and news.
If you are looking for any mechanical help let us know. I personally have rebuilt 4 DSM engines, 2 transmissions, and have done 3 6-bolt swaps into 2nd generation DSMs.
Also if you are looking for some car events to stretch you laser's legs, we try to stay on top of those too! Some of us drag race pretty frequently at Cedar Falls raceway and a few of us autocross race as well.
Our next event is next weekend August 23rd and 24th. A few of us will be heading up to the All Mitsubishi Cookout in Rogers Minnesota. The 23rd is a dyno shootout/cruise and the 24th is an amazing car show that should feature over 150 mitsubishis this year! We have yet to work out the details for our caravan up there.
Check out the sites, especially the new site, and let me know what you think!

sweet, thanks man. the DSTA sites pretty cool, i like the layout and UI. hell, i may be asking you for help soon, my damn motor has a tick that goes off and on and its getting louder bitch about it is is that i just did a synthetic oil change and dont want to rip apart the engine and get ANOTHER one, stuffs too expensive now a days, especially with my shitty paycheck lol. which also means i wont be able to go anywhere anytime soon wouldnt mind going to the cookout. how often do people go to the raceway in cedar falls?

me and my friends usually go once every other month or so. the weather lately has screwed that up for us. and the track is only open to 1/8 mile right now, which means a stock dsm barely goes over the speed limit :P (my buddy's civic hit 95 in the 1/8 mile a few weeks ago, though!)
the next big Cedar Falls Raceway night is the night of September 27th, which is also the same night as Hot Import Nights in Minneapolis. judging by the interests you listed when you introduced yourself, i am sure you will want to see Hot Import Nights in person!
I should also mention that there is a bit of a get-together every Friday night in Ames at the Super WalMart on Duff. Head over there and you can probably catch Heshan in his burgundy 1g, and gs-t SPYDER in his 2g convertible. I will probably hit that a few more times this summer. Its a bummer because Ames is a 1 1/2 hour drive south for me

HAHAHA, thats hella funny, my GF works at the super wal-mart, she gets off around 7 tonight too. thats kinda funny its there, weird i remember seeing the blue 2g eclipse on CL there once. i parked right next to it when i remembered where i saw it from and checked it out, its a really nice car, i love the paint job too. thats what i would want on mine. ive always wanted to go to HIN too. it sucks because when i lived in washington state, whenever they would be in seattle, i would ALWAYS have to work :'( but i did go to a muscle car show with my dad which was TONS of fun, i have a bunch of photos of that, but not on a good camera lol.

Lol hell no...I had my first run in with the minis and I got trashed. I think I was like the second fastest non-mini cooper in gs though...
Anyways, just be gald you didn't come cause the course was awful. I was like 3/4 the size of the mlk lot, and it was very tight. Basically, unless you were driving a miata, mini, hatchback honda,or loutus it was a shitty course. The corners were so tight I wasn't making any power coming out in 2nd...and I couldn't downshift into first, cause the tires would break loose...
but now that I'm thinking about it, I forgot you drive a hatchback, so you probably would have dominated...

sunday? its saturday, unless you 2 are meeting up tomorrow too. i think ive actually seen your car rollin around a few times, mines the shitty red laser with a big dent in the drivers rear panel lol . right now we dont have a phone til monday, but either message me on here or PM me or something. and i dont think anyone rules the streets in ames, theres not really any streets to rule, but i rule S 5th, all 5 blocks of it if you and adam plan on getting together tonight, i MAY be able to come out, depends on a few things that are still up in the air.

Alright, I'm pretty much gonna write a book here, so be prepared for it. First off:

Yeah, those Minis will #### you up. It's really too bad DMVR doesn't have a large enough base to warrant an SI class. That'd be the place for us.
Also, on tight courses? Remember that heavy left foot braking concept I brought up with you once or twice? That's the time to use it. The shorter the course, the later you need to wait to brake, and the longer you need to trail brake to keep the damn turbo spooled so you can use your power on the straights. Keep trying to get that ass end out... that'll help more than anything, provided you're good with the countersteer.
So okay, being done with that, I'm moving on to DSTA stuff...
First off, doing basically the same thing for every meet is not a good way to get people to come, unless it's something fun. Talking to the same people who all drive the same car is not all that exciting if you do it every month. Not a whole lot changes, and the cars are nothing you haven't seen before... it gets really boring just standing around looking at the same cars all the time.
I've been to a bunch of meets up here in the Twin Cities since my (less than) triumphant return... A couple of them have been all Mitsu, with the guys and gals on MitsuStyle, and a few generic meets with people off MNSC. The Mitsu meets are by far the best meets I've ever attended.
See, they don't just get together and stand around in a parking lot, or just go for a cruise... there's always a restaurant involved. The weekly meets take place at an Old Chicago, and we sit, eat, drink, and talk about whatever... it's a great time, and it's incredibly noob-friendly, which is something a "typical" meet is not if you don't know anybody.
It's just an idea to play around with, but seriously, the meets would be much more exciting and enticing if you did something fun like a group dinner, then the usual parking lot hangout, then a cruise.
