    4 bolt is just the stronger version of the two available rear ends in the first generation dsms. There was a 3 bolt which was in the early cars (90-91) and then the 4 bolts were found in the later first gen cars (92-94). The rear axles bolt up to the outer axle cups with either 3 or 4 bolts (how we know which is which) and the diameter of the 4 bolt axles are slightly larger and therefore stronger than the 3 bolt axles.
