I'm sorry, I should have stated my issue did not seem to be an oil pressure issue after all. Apparently having the cam gear the wrong way had the timing wrong (it behaved as though the 3rd piston was the first and vise versa). Apparently this caused the oil pressure issue. All I know is after we straightened out the timing (cam gear) the car ran flawless.
Sorry for the late reply but I had the project on hold for the winter...However to answer your question I did find out the cause, one of the cam gears was put in backward by the prev owner. As soon as i turn it around the issue disappeared. Hope this helps you and if u have any other questions feel free to ask
So I'm betting it's stock and might have been done some were along the line. But, I'm not counting on it to last very long on the new setup. So this is were the dsm link may or may not happen and would require me to stick with the stock injectors for a bit. Meaning i'd spend the money on a findaza flywheel and act street disc setup or some sort of sprung 6 puk clutch. But for as much as i know about cars this starting off new with something is a bit over welming and i for sure can use some help getting the timing side of the engine back together. Would make me feel better thats for sure, knowing it was done right. Sorry this was long. I just kept going. LOL!,Jason
Otherwise it needs a few little thing i'm hoping to get from a salvage yard here shortly.ashtray, weather stripping for driver door not the body. exterior lower window trim for driver door, steering wheel, spare tire and jack, hatch cover, battery tie down brace. The previous owner didnt know anything about the clutch he said for the 1.5 years or so he had it he never replaced it. The prior owner to him was a college girl who just drove it and babbied it and as well as he did they took great care of the car with a glove box full of receipts. From what i can tell the clutch lets out up top of the pedal travel. Not down a bit or down low like it's worn out or anything is wrong with the slave cylinder.
So i got for now these parts:head gasket, head bolts, timing belt set with seals and pulleys, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, walbro fuel pump, fuel filter,550cc injectors, front mount intercooler with clamps and couplers, ssqv bov with recirc fitting,tdo6 super 20g turbo, dejon turbo intake with K&N filter,
o2 housing,3" down pipe,Test Pipe,3" cat back but its on back order. so i'm waiting a couple of weeks for it. 2" lowering springs, front and rear strut tower bars, drilled and slotted rotors with new pads,2 gauge a pillar pod for the innovate wideband with xd-16 gauge and boost gauge,Short throw shifter with new knob,dvd/cd/bluetooth 7" flip out headunit, rockford fosgate 6" speaker with cross overs all the way around,Alpine type r 10" sub,Alpine mono sub amp,Turbo timer,New battery, fresh oil and filter
all new fluids for the transmission, transfer case and rear diff as well as the additive for the lsd rear diff.
Right now i have to get the head off and inspect for bent valves. The previous owner said he just had the radiator flushed at the beginning of winter and the shop pulled the car out and turned it off. He then said he started it back up and went back in to pay and when he came out it wasnt running. so he tried to start it over and over again and it wouldnt fire. From there which he admitted he doesnt know alot about cars. But, he thought it was ignition related and had it all tested and came back good. from there for some reason he thought maybe it skipped timing and bent a valve. But, personally thinking about it, it should start and run but, like shit and make some nice noises perhaps. But, during this entire time he never checked to see if he had fuel. 182,000 miles and the stock fuel pump i'm betting it's just a fuel pump is all it needs. But, i want to make sure first before doing anything else.
I'm not sure about the eprome ecu yet i have yet to remove it and crack it open to find out. I hope it is so i can move on to the DSM link. I plan and have the money for one. But, i want to get it running here first before i worry about it right now incase other things come up with the gsx i didnt plan on.
No I dont know Mike. I'm of course new to the dsm thing. But, typically i do all the work my self on my cars. But, in this case until i become more familiar i have a buddy Grant who works out in a performance shop in Union who has been into only DSM sinec he was 14/15 and currently still owns a few and i'm hoping to aquire his help on getting it up to par at least run stock in it's current condition. All the other stuff plus tuning i'm capable of. But, when i get this thing running plus all the mods i'd be interested in going to gateway. Been a while since i've been with the turbo saturn last. Keep me informed. ,Jason
My 2.4 eninge is holding up good. I just got some HKS 272 cams. I want to put wiseco pistons in it now with the 272 cams and max out my 18g turbo. The compression will drop to like 8.8:1 with the new pistons.
congrats on the new addition, they grow up fast. My youngest is four, she hasn't been diagnost yet but think she is mildly autistic. I have more projects than I know what to do with haha. I also have 2 toyota celica gts(90&91) 91 a friend of my son's gave to me,he thought it was rod knocking, no oil pressure. He had just put a new oil pump on (8000mi) turns out the oil pump pulley was wallered out. The 90 was a daily driver 8 years ago(blown headgasket) used the oil pump, wheels and tires to get the 91 running. The plates are up on my talon so I've been stripping stuff I don't need(ps,sound deadner, back seat, smog crap,a/c,radio)I've been a mechanic for a long time. The drag car will be budget/14b see how far that takes me,its got a 3 bolt rear. I got it really gutted no heat,a/c,p/s,radio got the wiring all stripped out. I've got a 13 acre farm so lots of room for projects, haha. sorry for long post but don't have alot of friends that are really into cars. Jason
Hey bud,
Thanks for the comment. Yeah the Supra is the other toy. Under the knife also, waiting on a new clutch. I know what you mean when it comes to the money/ other issues, just had a newborn a few months ago and am starting to experience it a little also. Can't get rid of the toys though :0 haha. But sounds like you aren't too much of a noob, that is cool you have a little collection. What are the plans for the drag car? Just added you as a friend so feel free to comment whenever. Have a good one.
