Post Project Car/Build Blog Entries, instead of Build Threads

We're beginning a transition on our site from "build threads" to "build blogs". I know some people are more used to the forum format, but when documenting a build, it's much easier for people to follow along when it's posted in blog form, since it's more like a journal. You don't have to sift through pages of replies just to find some updates. Replies to blogs are positioned below the content everyone really wants to read.

We will be taking more steps to help make the Blogs more tightly integrated into the forums. But in the meantime, we ask that you discontinue posting build threads/replies and start posting blog entries with your updates instead. If you have a current build thread, you can easily convert each of your past posts/replies in that thread to blog entries (with your photos) by using the "blog this post" icon in the bottom right hand corner of your post - next to the edit/reply buttons. This way, you don't have to re-post all of your updates and photos. This should make it easy to transition.

At some point, we'll start closing build threads and will ask users to post them as blog entries. If you have questions on how to use the blogs, read the FAQ I posted below, and post questions in the Site Help forum if your questions still aren't answered.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Here's a tutorial I put together that explains how to post a blog and a blog entry:

I'll be adding more info to it shortly.

Hangout Forum Guidelines - Acceptable behavior in the Hangout (not in the Tech Forums)

The Hangout was created to keep all "non-technical" discussions out of the technical forums and to have a place for the members to get to know each other and have fun. We only have one request for using the Hangout:

Be respectful to everyone! Avoid posting about street racing, politics, religion, nudity, racism, and other ultra controversial/offensive material. Keep the discussions about "rice/ricers" to a minimum - in fact, try avoiding the use of the term if you can, as it is still considered offensive to some. We will remove anything we feel is offensive and will lock/delete threads that result in flame wars. And please, don't post stuff in the Hangout that belongs in other parts of the site (ie. tech posts, classifieds, etc.). That stuff will be moved or deleted. Other than that, anything goes. Have fun!

Keep in mind that what we consider acceptable in the Hangout is not necessarily acceptable in our Tech Forums. If we find people are acting like fools/asses in our Tech Forums now that we've loosened up our rules in the Hangout, we'll adopt a no-tolerance policy and will start banning people without warning. While the Hangout is a place to let loose and have a good time with other DSMers, we expect a much higher standard in our Tech sections. Don't forget that.
