I'm fairly certain my problem is the inner tie rod knuckle. I've been having inconsistent steering feedback, steering wheel slop, and a small thump felt in the steering when slowly altering steering direction in either direction from a stop or from a roll. Steering also goes from feeling normal, to feeling stiff, and maybe sometimes a bit too loose. I replaced the outer tie rods a few months ago. The problem stayed, but has recently become worse. I had a friend help and we found/felt the thump on the drivers' side inner tie rod.

What do you guys think? How hard is this to repair? I assume when I take the boot off I'm going to find a bushing that needs to be replaced, correct?

Thanks
Larry

Alright I screwed around with it some more. It looks like it's the steering gearbox that has taken a dump. It looks like a major PITA to change so wish me luck. The play is minimal so I think maybe it's brackets are loose rather than actually blown out. I'll find out this weekend. I think I'll pick up a manual rack if it is blown out.

I took it to the shop today and put it up on the hoist. Turns out the passenger side CV boot has torn. Went to Autozone and got a reman axle. Drivers' side is next after this. I am guessing it's the CVs that are worn given the results today.
