Ok, I recently acquired some 'new' Enkei Wheels to replace the beloved chrome 16'' wheels that are currently on the car. The tires on these wheels need to be replaced soon, so I'm looking into tire sizes and brands to order pretty soon.
The Enkei Wheels are 17x7 with a 38mm offset. I want tires that are great for performance, but also look nice and ride well. I don't want a profile too skinny either. I'm most concerned with contact patch and rubbing, and basically a median of all the above so I can get the best tire for me. Also, what sizes would keep the speedo accurate, and which would not?
Being FWD, I figure a nice contact patch would do me good. Although, for hardcore drag racing scenarios, I do have some 15'' Kosei K1s with BFG rubber to put on the front, so over doing it on the tire width is not necessary. But then again, I don't want to be changing the front set anytime I want to race.
As for the actual selection of what brand tires to get, I am pretty much open to any ideas. Again, I don't need anything super soft, just something nice enough to be semi-sticky on the street. I will probably be driving a lot(freeway) to and from school(45 min drive each way), so I don't want to be going through tires like nothing. One thing I have pretty much decided is that the Kuhmos just don't cut it anymore. They felt GREAT when I was non-turbo, but now, I'm not too sure I'm happy with them because of the added power.
Also, if this has any revelance to this discussion, I do plan on dropping the car in the near future. I'm not talking about slammed to the ground, just enough to get rid of some of the wheel gap. I can live with some wheel gap while riding on the street, as I don't want to be scraping everywhere anyway. For shows, I do plan on dropping it as much as possible.
Well, sorry this is so long. Hopefully we can make this a thread that other people can look to for help as well. Please don't hijack this thread either. Let's stay on topic. I've done some research, but I'm not an expert at anything, so I figured I'd look to you guys for help. Thanks everyone!
By the way, this is all for a 1993 Eclipse GS, with a 4g63T swap in it.
