Help With Drag Setup

My best is currently a 12.15 @ 115 1.76 60' on 93 oct pump gas @ 23psi on the PTE 5031RE. I'd like to see an 11.7 on pump, but I don't want to push the stock engine much harder, so to get 11's on 93 oct I've done/am doing the following:

-Shep Stage 3 Tranny (done)
-Punishment Racing Radiator (done)
-Motor mount inserts (front and rear - not done yet)
-3.3 GM Map Sensor (to help with a better tune - not done yet)

And I'm thinking about doing Alcohol Injection (Devil's Own).

But one thing I'm certain I'm doing is suspension and lighter weight wheels, as I'm still on the 25 lb stockers and stock suspension. I'm about to order the Tokico Illuminas and Tokico springs for the suspension (1.75" drop). And for a tire I'm thinking this: Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

Mainly b/c I've been searching around in this section and found it in a recent thread, haha, and it seems great for the price.

But for wheels I'm not so sure what route to go. Does rotational wheel weight really make enough difference to help me out? Should I go with 16's or 17's? Although performance is my main concern, I also want them to look decent.

My budget for wheels is right around $1000. So if you guys can give me some help or make some suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

suspension alone will help you so much get a good shock and coilover and i bet that it may just put you in the 11s ive seen up to 3 tenths coming off with suspension!!! so id start there! do you have any logs from your runs?

Why would a coilover perform better than a spring?

Those tires are very good. I used them on my 1g awd and had 1.6 60ft with them. I used the 225 50 16 size. Mach III has rota's cheap. That's the rim I would use.

That radiator is not going to hel you dop .4 secs in the 1/4. I would look into tuning for a higher boost level and maybe looking into a smim. Which hotside are you running on your 50 trim?

If you want a wheel/tire combo, you're gonna need to spend over $1000. Ideally you want something with a softer compound to help you hook up on the track. Those G-Force sports are a very so so tire. Nothing impressive about them other than they are cheap. And yes, rotating mass makes a big difference on the car. Not to mention it's unsprung weight as well. You will want more sidewall on a drag setup so go with 16's. But realistically, you need a bigger budget. Save up and do it right once. Get some 16's with drag radials and they will help you out significantly.

Just to add to the above, I have also heard that a softer sidewall will help lower your 60'. Right now we're running Michelin PS2's with a very stiff sidewall. On the 16g setup we would be spinning through first and part of 2nd on the track in September weather, so a tire that provides good handling might hurt your launches. Someone feel free to chime in and correct me on this though.

I'm seriously considering the Rota Slipstreams in a 16x7. I want a good setup for dragging, and I'd like to take your advice on tires. But I also want a good streetable tire that will last a while and that will handle rain if needed. Any recommendations? Is there a DR that you know of that will suit these needs?

The other consideration, and concern is wheel gap. I'm not sure how much I'll have with the 1.75" drop that the Tokico springs give me. I'm just a little leary about 16's giving me too much gap with that drop, and it looking like crap. A tire with a larger side wall would help my launches, and will consequently help resolve wheel gap - hopefully. I've searched for pics all day to try and figure this out. I've found a few. (I think this guy may have had the Tokico Kit when this pic was taken - I PMed him and am awaiting his response.) If that's all the wheel gap I'll have with a similar tire size, then I'll be very happy.

I have Slipstreams, and they are really nice. They are pretty lite and I definitely like how they look. As for tires, I don't really have much advice to give.

A) Any pics of Slips on a 2G with a 1.75" drop and a tire with a decent sidewall will help me.

B) Also, every Slip I see on a DSM is either black or gunmetal. Does nobody like silver or steel grey?? Haha. Pics of those colors on actual cars would be helpful.

I've searched for both of A & B for hours and hours - not much found. Suprising for such a popular wheel. Maybe I just suck at searching??

After calling MachIII I've deceded against the Rota's. They guy said they redid their casting b/c too many were cracking, changing the weight now to 16 lbs for a 16x7. I'm going with Enkei RPF1's which are 13.7 lbs in a 16x7 and maybe a DR or good street tire.

If you check my gallery, I have one pic with my street 18's on the back (225/40/18 tires) & Hoosier DR's on the front. Their on a 16" rim with a 225/50/16 tire & I'm running the Tokico setup.

You defently can't run the Hoosier DR's on the street but a couple other DR's to check out, that would be a more resonable "street tire" would be the BF Goodrich DR's & the Nitto's. Now, the Nittos are longer lasting but of course won't grip as well as the BFG's but you'll have to check into sizing as I know Nitto dropped some of them for our application. There are several other street tires that should give you some pretty descent traction, when going for those kinds of times but most will be out of your budget range. A couple cheeper priced street tires that seem to work well are Kumho MX's & Falken 615's.
