A question was brought up between the effectiveness between drum and disc brakes.

We all know that disc brakes have become the norm in stopping a car, but do they have any cons compared to a drum brake?

There is an application that I know of that uses both styles and it turns out that the drum brake works better. It could be that the drum and shoes are larger than the rotor and pads that are used therefore making it better, but I would like to know if the actual design of drum compared to disc giving it the edge.

I've tried to find data on computing actual torque via drum and can't calculate it effectively.
The drum is of course the lever point or OD, the pad Cf common but calculating piston area I haven't found a way to do it properly.

Cons of disc? I can't really think of any over disc. Disc wins hands down in all the things I can think of. The reason for the disc not working as well may be the wrong application of the parts for the requirement?

What's the app? Maybe we can pick it apart some.

This could have been sent in a PM, what do you think?
