good day everyone! i'm ochi from the philippines. i joined the forums because i want to learn a lot of engine modding from you guys. hopefully i can share my builds when time allows me to.

by the way, i recently acquired a g62b engine (1.8L, sohc, 8v, carb) that came from a friend's 2nd gen mitsubishi lancer 1800 gsr... he sold the complete engine to me for only US$100...

i know it's the smaller brother of the g63b engine (2.0L sohc, 8v, carb) that came from the mitsubishi L300 vans so its stock stroke is 90mm and the only difference between the two engines is their stock bore... i was wondering if i can use the 4g64, g64b, or g4cs internals (crank, rods, pistons, etc.) to bore and stroke this 1.8L engine to something like 2.3L or even 2.4L... i'm planning to put my solex/mikuni/kogyo twin side carbs into the engine during the buildup...

hoping to hear some enlightening answers from the experts and gurus here... thanks and more toque and horsepower to everyone's rides!:D

Hello,

A little about me before I talk about my new car. My name is Jesse, but I'm often called Pacman (my last name is Pahman but no one can say it). I am married and a father of 3 children. I'm currently serving in the Army and stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX in El Paso. I've done one tour of 15 months to Iraq and there are plans for me to go back again. I'm easy to get along with and am always looking for people who are interested in cars that might know something about the car I'm driving at the moment.

It's been a long time since I've joined a new board. Most of my experience with smaller FWD/AWD vehicles has been with VW or Audi. This past Monday night, however, I bought a 1991 Eclipse N/T 1.8 SOHC. I bought it for reliability and fuel economy and so far it's doing that second part great; not to say that I don't think it's going to be reliable, it's just that it's only been two days.

I don't have any real plans to build the motor, I'm all about making it faster and sounding better, but that isn't what I bought this car for. If there are inexpensive or just stupid easy things I can do to improve its performance I'll do them, but I pretty much bought it to put a stereo in and just drive the heck out of it. I found it on craigslist and purchased it for $600. It runs and drives great, but does have a few cosmetic issues, as you would expect out of a $600 car. I took a few good pics of the car once I got it home and I'll share them here. If anyone has constructive input as to how I can improve my DSM I appreciate it. I look forward to becoming an active member of this board.

Well when I first started my account here with the dsmtuners I never came here to introduce myself. My name is Denver and I am 18 years old. I live in the Southeastern part of Indiana. I bought my very first DSM which is my beloved 1995 Eclipse GSX turbo 5 spd. Purchased it October 23. While driving it home I pushed in the clutch and it died on me. I brought it back to my house and here it begins my second job.

When I purchased it from the guy i bought it from him for 1,500$ knowing the turbo is bad. I found a different turbo to go on it. I have both the "B" belt and timing belts installed. The problem is that the oil pump sprocket is siezed up:cry:. It is still down atm because of school/work/tae kwon do/homework etc. I also own my 1987 Chevrolet S10 pickup and Suzuki GS500F motorcycle. Anyways I will have some pictures of the car up soon in my photo gallery. :hellyeah: I will definetly post my bike in there as well but the S10 I am a little ashamed of, but it has treated me very good after nickel and diming me to death...So I might as well post that as well.

Thanks to everyone for reading this and also for the future questions I will have concerning my car.

-Denver
PS> And Denver is my REAL name. It is not a nickname.

EDIT I have pictures of my car in my gallery. Check them out and tell me what you think!

Hello dsmtuners! I've been a prospective DSM buyer for a while and I finally found what I was looking for on Craigslist at just the right price. Therefore, I now own a 92 Talon TSi AWD. The mods, to my knowledge, include: 3" Apexi turboback exhaust, FMIC, manual boost controller and a boost gauge. However, it's not running just yet. The previous owner wasn't too mechanically-inclined so all he was able to tell me is that the car seemed to make a "jet engine" sound right before it died on the highway. So now I have to diagnose the problem and that's why I'm here - to learn! Oh, and maybe gain some good DSM friends around the Seattle area.

I've always been a domestic guy because of the way I grew up. I also own a 2003 Mustang Cobra, which will always be my baby, but the world of AWD turbo 4 cylinders intrigues me. Plus the Cobra is still 2300 miles away sitting safely at my parent's house and I'm getting the itch to work on a car badly. Now here I am with a Talon ready to learn all about them and the 4g63. However, there's one problem: I just moved here about 7 months ago and I have no tools (besides a few screwdrivers, a crescent wrench and a hammer) and no place to work in. So if there are any people or groups of people at all in the Seattle region that are willing to gain an honest, likable 21 year old DSM friend while teaching me a thing or two I'd forever appreciate your kindness.

I look forward to all the knowledge I'm going to gain by being a member of these forums and getting my hands dirty.

Now here's the new toy:

Alright, so I've wanted a turbo car forever. I've always hastily purchased cars that approach what i want but are never quite it. 1991 firebird with a 305 v8 automatic (170hp, oo la la), then a 1998 firebird v6(didn't learn my lesson). So i decide to give up on cars for a while and focus on school (manufacturing engineering, after attending the automotive tech program near my hometown) and bought a kia spectra hatchback which gets good gas milage and satisfying to drive but still no turbo manual transmission car, which always seemed like the most fun to me. Then one day a friend says hed sell me a 1995 talon tsi fwd for 600 bucks, i check it out and it doesnt seem too bad and for what ive seen around 600 bucks its like a dream, so i buy it since i plan on a full tear down anyway.

So here i am, starting this thread to document the resurrection of this car. Plans for the engine will be decided after i pull the current one on Saturday and see what the deal is. I'm hoping to, even if slowly, make this into the car ive wanted for so long. Any input is welcome, i think it'd be cool for everyone to enjoy my build, cause who doesnt like support right?

Any way ill stop rambling and just get the thread going.
p.s. pics up tomorrow since i have a test tomarrow and a paper due i dont wanna pull away from the computer into the garage.

Hi every one. Just purchased a 95 Tsi talon today with a wiring problem for 500 bucks. Car is in great shape but im having trouble isolating why cylinders 1 &4 are not firing. I know both coils are good because you can swap the wiring around. That just makes 2 & 3 fire and not 1 & 4. Im a little stumped at this point. Any one have this problem also? Iv tried different ECU's and Transistors with the same result. I just need to know which wire it is that is grounding itself out so i can bypass it if anyone knows.

Also, Does this year have a PCM alongside the ECU? Several diagrams seem to suggest that it does but i cant seem to find it.

Ill have some pics up come monday though :D

well, I'm not really 'new' to the forum, I've been here a bit, but thought I'd intro myself.

I am a WAHM of 2 boys - one is 18 and in his first year in college at U of Idaho. He drives a '87 Pathfinder that we straight axled with a Jeep front axle this summer. Last summer we lifted it 4'' and put 33x10.5's on it, but the IFS was not meant for the wheeling he liked to do, so we basically had to straight axle it.

My younger son will be 16 in March, and we purchased him a '96 Talon. I have been driving it a lot. Found out it gets 31.4 MPG and how can I resist with that mileage? I have to make sure it's safe for the kiddo, right? Not to mention it's fun to drive! I have a '97 Subaru Outback that is my car, but it only gets 27.7 MPG :)

I have been married to my best friend since 1991 (together since 1987), and we work on vehicles together, and we really work well together! Here are some of our websites compiled on this one page: The Vail Family's collection of websites - right now, the Diamond-T is hubby's project (it's somewhere on the snowtoaster site). I hope all the links work, geocities just closed down and I have been having to do a lot of relinking to get things to work after I bought a domain so I could keep our sites on yahoo......

Anyhow! I was wondering if anyone could tell me why I cannot post in the ''wanted'' classifieds?
