My guess is the rear diff or maybe the transfer case. What could possibly do this? Is it a bad transfer, broken gear(s) in the rear diff.

I'm going to run a twin disk on my car and I was wondering what some of you other twin disk guys were using as a pedal stop? I don't really want to have any freeplay in my clutch pedal.

I've heard of welding a nut to the pedal and having a bolt to adjust it. Is this the common way? Or is there another easier way that wouldn't require welding?

Thanks in advance! :thumb:

I been waiting to get a trans and put the damn thing in for months now :( . Also, the only thing i have to swap for the 97 trans to work is the t-case rite????

so the magnet wasnt on the drain plug when i went to drain my rear diff the other day.

so i dropped the rear diff and pulled the cover off and found the magnet. it was a litttle chewed up but not bad at all and it was melted a bit. looked a little like a melter tootse roll lol.

but now for the good part of the story

the reason i was draining the diff in the 1st plasce is... when i bought this GSX 3 years ago some idiot removed the T case drive shaft and rear diff(why? i dont know).

so i spent the $ and bought a whole drive train T case back. and the A-hole at this wreaking yard who thinks he is some all knowing dsm wanna be, we will name him Gorge, swore to me that it was all out of a 95 gsx mt so i put all new fluids and installed everything. i drove around a bit realized something was wrong. well come to find out this t case was off a 97+ so i took it back and had to pay another $100 and i got a feshly rebuilt t-case(the right one) and i installed that.

but then i was getting the whining noise and i thought the read diff got messed up so thats why i was draining it.

so to the point. there arent any chipped teeth on the ring gear or the pinion gear and there doesnt seem to be any play at all either. is there a way to check?. the fluild was baked but it was redline heavy shock proof.

also i think my center diff is what may be whining since im pretty sure i now have a RWD dsm because with the car in gear i can freely spin the front wheels

so my main concern now is the rear differential and how to tell if its no good

Thanks and sorry for the long story but i thought it may be revelant to my problems..

Okay, I just put my tranny back in today after doing a clutch job and tearing apart my tranny for inspection cause it was grinding bad in 2nd gear and was gonna replace the gearsets but everything looked good so decided against it. Upon startup, I had no reverse. I know I didn't miss anything in the tranny so not even thinking about pulling it right now. It shifted fine in 1st thru 5th. Just not reverse and won't even TRY and go in reverse. Car running or off, It's the same. Adjusted it at the pedal and still nothing. I'm thinking "maybe" my cables so wanna shift it by hand 1st and then do it with the cable to see what happens, but where is reverse if I'm shifting it at the tranny by hand? Just not sure which position it needs to be in. If I'm looking at it from the front of the car, does it need to go down and then left or right? Or in the up position and to the left or right? Thanks. This is a 98 GS-T btw, with Fidanza, Act 4 puck, and Spec pp if it matters.

Oh yeah, reverse switch was really tight on top of the tranny so loosened it up and then some just to be sure.

Well, heres the deal. My car is having major problems. I got some work done for me, which included a throttle body porting, new cylinder head, cam gears, 2g piston mod, etc. After a day of driving the car (drove it very carefully, no abuse), I noticed some problems. I can not shift into 2nd, 4th, or reserve gear. The reserve gear grinds and will not go in, the others just won't go in. Also, the shifter has a TON of resistance and is hard to move back and forth.Their was no loud noise or anything, it just happened while I was driving. Now, I've replaced almost EVERYTHING I can think of, and it's still not working. I replaced the master/slave cylinder, the clutch lines, and shifting assembly. I did a clutch job about 500 miles before I took it to the shop, so the clutch was just broken in. I resurfaced the flywheel and replaced the throw out bearing / pivot ball when I did the clutch job. I need my car back, or else I'm going to have to get out of the DSM seen. People tell me the transmission is shot, but I'm refusing to believe that at this point. Maybe I'm wrong though. All the "DSM gurus" around here haven't been able to help me. I can't even force the gears (2,4,R) into place. Any help would be appreciated..thanks.

I bought a awd TRE stage 2 off of a guy on here on the classifieds about 5 months ago. It was purchased for a build but the build never commenced so it sat for a year before it was sold to me. After installing, it would NOT go into 5. After a mile of driving I turned around and let it idle in the driveway about to break into tears. I decided to try 5th one more 'gain and it went right in! Any ways, the tranny had about 7500 miles on it now. I changed the lube at 500 and 1500 miles. Now, its shifting pretty well. 1-2 is notchy still. I also properly adjusted and bled my clutch (act 2100).

A few thousand miles ago, I notice a metallic gear type shhhhh sound that is very apparent when rolling on lightly in 5th gear going 40-55 mph. Its less apparent in other gears because it seems to be louder with speed and slight acceleration. It doesnt sound very good to me at all but the trans seems to be shifting ok. I was reading about a nut under the side case of the tranny coming loose and causing some shifter movement. I noticed my shifter moves a bit under acceleration... could that nut being loose cause the movement and or the noise? From what I can tell my cv shafts are ok and the driver side bracket seem to be tight and in place...

Anything appreciated as always.
