This is coming from stock 8.5:1, will there be such a noticeable difference in going down to 8.0:1, such as off boost power/spool time, and has anyone heard anything about Wossner pistons? I haven't been able to find any info/results about them being used in DSM applications.

Now I'm just confused again and don't know what to order haha

Thanks.

I know the 2 main differences in the 2 bottom ends are N/A has no oil squirters (which I dont use anyways so no big deal) and the N/A pistons are higher compression.

My question is does anybody know how much a stock 6bolt N/A bottom end can handle with new bearings obviously and ARP Rod bolts? My car is making just around 350hp..

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Should I have? It's going in my 98 block with a 4g64 brand new crank. Also, I bought some ACL race bearings and I'm not sure if they were made for the 93-96 or 97-99, does it matter that much on my car with that block and that crank? I want to start up my car tomorrow, but not of it's going to break everything. Thanks,
Since then the motor has not been cranked there are no miles at all. My question is should i pull this motor apart to check the ring gaps etc? My friend had a JNZ motor go after 1,800 miles due to a ring gap error. Some people say yes others say just put it in. I think it may be a waste to take it apart since im not the original owner of the motor, and if there is a problem I'd be screwed anyway. what are your thoughts and opinions.
Thats right, you got it! An engine rebuild....:notgood: I was driving home tonight and while boosting in third gear i heard a loud pop and the car died. I thought one of my IC pipes came loose again so i got out to look at them and they all looked fine??? after looking around a little longer It just came to me to to look at the timing belt and sure enough. There it was sticking out of the top of the timing cover, The 4g63's beloved balance shaft belt. And now my car wont even start. Anybody throwing out a 7-bolt long block? :D LOL

I have looked all over the site including the big cam identification thread and still do not know what these cams are. They both (intake and exhaust) are marked the same. Near the cam gear end there is a capital B and the small dots aligned in a triangle, when spun around the other side it stamped with a sideways capital D and a right side up number one. Near the other end of the camshaft it is marked with the same capital B and when spun around to the other side has the number 25. This does not coincide with any of the stock cam markings. Can any one help? Even the manufacturer could be useful. Thank you.

Ive searched and searched but this seems to be the first question about a head bolt.

Im trying to pull the head of my car and got all but one of the head bolts cracked loose. The last one I get to is already rounded out, and I have no hope of removing it with the 10mm star/allen socket.

Its the bolt to the far left exhaust side.

I went to sears this morning and bought a set of rounded bolt removers, and they seem like they will grip the round outside edge of the head bolt. Only problem is its too big to fit in the tight space. The extracters are pretty big and Ive even removed the camshaft to free up some space but the side of the head and the valve spring are in the way. Maybe if I removed the valve spring I could squeeze the extractor in there but I dont think it would have enough room to get back out and I have no way of removing the valve spring.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to remove this rounded out head stud? I think if I could weld a bolt ontop of the head bolt I could get it but there is the space issue. The bolts arent threaded into the head so it COULD be drilled but that is risky and this is a good head and I really dont want to mess it up.

Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with a rounded out head bolt and how they got it removed.

what I have in my mind would be
should I run on 8.3:1 , 8.5:1 or should i run on 9:1 compression for boost levels of 30-32psi on 93 octane.

I know you would ask me to search, but i am having mixed reviews, dsmtalk guy say it wouldnt even pass 16psi on 8.5:1 , some evn say 9:1 pump gas and 30psi dint have a knock. What would u say ?

In the next few days I will be installing my head onto my short block. Right now just the crank and pistons are in, and I think my next step would be putting the head on, followed by the oil pump front case and timing belt kit. What is the correct way to put the head on the short block? What orientation should the pistons be? What orientation should the cams/cam gears be? I will be using arp studs with a cometic headgasket. I know this is a very debated topic, but should I spray my cometic with permatex hg sealer? I had .005 taken off the block and .012 taken off the head, so things "should" be flat and true. I am leaning towards yes unless someone can persuade me not to. Any other tips for putting the head on a fresh motor?
