I got new gauges for my 98nt . It has a positive and negative wire and I'm trying to put them so they turn on with my parking lights. I was thinking of cutting the dimmer switch wires and cramping them back together but with the positive and negative. (Pros going to pros new going to new of course)
Or is there an even easier way and just putting it on a fuse? If so what fuse (interior)
Thanks for the help guys.I'm having the hardest time figuring this out since I'm not to good at this stuff yet. This is the wiring for it if it helps

I'm guessing the NT fuse box is different than our turbo cars. If you want to ghetto rig it - I took off the fuse for the lights and wrapped the wire around it before putting it back on (the backside of the fuse box will tell you what fuse runs to what). This was done on my previous car (85 Rx7) - It's not the correct way and I don't recommend it but it got the job done. I recommend option #2; You don't have to cut the wire and crimp it back on. There is actually a tap that they sell at the auto parts store (electric section) which allows you to run your gauges wires to it and have it tap into the cars desired wire.
 
BTW, I meant "different" as in you stated it's located inside the car. Ours are actually located in the engine bay next to the battery.
 
Oh ok, and yeah there is a fuse out there for it, but I don't really wanna run it that whole distance then back into the car. How does the tap work or if you can link one that'd be great. I tried looking for one but all that pops up is a add a circuit.

Here's what I mean by the wire taps Scotchlock Connectors.

Try the "Gauge" one. Just be cautious though 'cause the fuses pop if you aren't careful when removing or installing them. You have some spares on the fuse box that I can see in case that happens. Best way is to turn the lights on and see if the gauges come on with it - if it does. SHazzzam! :thumb: If it stays on all the time regardless if the lights are on or off - you need to find another fuse because the gauge lights won't ever turn off and drain your battery. I did trial and error the first time I did this. I tried the cigerette lighter first, then the turn signal etc.

No Problem, always glad to help a fellow DSM'er. By gauges do you mean like aftermarket boost, egt, volt, water temp etc. or do you mean like the actual gauge instrument panel as an mph, rpm, gas etc. If it's #2 have a professional do it 'cause it can really damage your electrical system if you don't do it correctly.
 
The back lights on my speedo and tach are messed up so I got a new speedo tach, temp and fuel. I was going to slide them around the needle on top the old and put holes for it to travel threw. Would I need a professional for it? I'm somewhat skilled in electrical work. But not perfect so wanted to make sure of things first.

I was going to go the same route this guy did by tying it to the dimmer switch.

Nah, If you're skilled you'll be fine. Yeah when it comes to the cluster go strictly by the book. Don't tap in to things or ghetto rig it as well. Video looks pretty straight forward.
 
So I should do as the video does? I because I can't figure out the parking light wire.. I'm having the hardest damn time wiring these still! :(
 
I try and stay away from aftermarket stuff like that due to the fact that often times they don't come with directions. If they do; the instructions aren't very helpful or are too vague. You can always do trial and error with scotchlock connectors as it taps into the wire rather than cutting it and so fourth. Just be sure to use electrical tape on the area you tapped and aren't using as it does expose a bit of the wire after you remove it. Have you tried ghetto rigging it to the fuse yet? Worst case scenerio it pops that fuse and you have to replace it but you have spares on the fuse box cover. I'm not saying to leave it like that permanetly but it also sounds like you are pretty frustrated at this point and just want the damn thing to work.:)

Haha idk How to run wires threw firewall and keep it safe and out of the way, what's the trial and error? I'm going to attempt it to the gauge fuse inside the car. (idk what that fuse is for as I pulled it and gauge still came on) but I'm going to see if it works with the keys out. I'm getting an alarm and radio in tomorrow so I'm going to wait till after that. Then I will play with it. Hah
