Zagreb, Croatia, Europe
Hi everybody.
I have been driving for past 5 years Mitsubishi Colt GTi with swapped 4G63T FWD.
The car was great, but I always wanted a DSM AWD.
Here in Croatia there is only one Eclipse GSX that is owned by my friend Ivan (Flashback here on the board).
He didn't want to sell me his so I was searching other countries in Europe for one but no luck until recently.
I found 1GB GSX in Italy. Ad said it only had 66.000 miles and on the pics it looked very good.
We decided to take a road trip to Italy to take a look at it. The trip was 1000 miles long.
When I sow her in parking lot I said, there goes my money.
We inspected her and there was few issues, like broken water cooler, rear springs were not the same, bad seal on transfer case, nothing to big.

Oh yes, and the engine was 6 bolt, 4 bolt rear LSD diff and 23 spline transfer case.
When we got back to Croatia I gathered the money and head back with transport to get it.
Here are some pic how she looked when we came to pick her up.

Our transport Mitsubishi Pajero.. I will never do that again, that was most uncomfortable trip ever..

IMAG0191_zpsbec5ab15.jpg

Then we had some papers problem.
When they imported it new from Florida to Italy in 92 they couldn't register it here because of the red rear blinkers. They had to be orange.
So they cut!!!! the rear lights and put some orange inserts in ti. :ohdamn::ohdamn:
Also added some ugly orange ones on front side of the car.
When they did that they change the car VIN number because it had modifications.
New VIN number was stamped into right strut (don't know if that is the right word) and it looks like the kids were playing with it.
So to cut the story short, we manage to get all the papers and went home.

When we finally got home, we found her a nice place in garage.

Ok so now you met the car.
When I had Colt with 4G63T i was gathering parts for like 2-3 years for it.
I had to drag those parts from US and my friend Chris Pearson helped me abnormally with sending me parts.
I would buy them from stores and they were shipped to his door. He would put as much as it could fit in one box and shipped them to me.
The tax and custom fees are around 40% from item value for import.
You can imagine how much I had to spend on that.
That is why it took me 3 years to get the parts.
Here are some of them.

TZ-Series Kevlar Clutch.

Quaife LSD front diff. I bought it for 90' FWD F5M33 but it seams ti will go to AWD as it was meant for it in first place

Few dark parts :D Forced performance 68HTA turbo and exhaust manifold with EVO 3 O2 housing, all coated.

There are more parts like 255 FP fuel pump, aeromotive AFPR, ARP head studs, adjustable cam gears..
AWD Fidanza flywheel and fuildampr are on the way from US so I don't have pic from them.

Few days ago Tial Q bov arrived from Germany.

So those were the parts.
Lets head back to garage

In mean time I got great offer on engine from Eclipse so I couldn't pass that go so I sold it.
I had the same 6 bolt engine that was in my Colt so we will now take that engine apart and clean it, polish it, do all the necessary work on it to get it back in top condition with all the parts above.
The only difference between those two engine is mileage.
The one I sold was 66.000 and the one from Colt had like 150.000.
But that is not the problem because the engine will be striped down to the last bolt.

Here are the pictures from taking out the engine.

Then the first shock came. When we took down the cam gears cover we sow this..
Something must have been scraping the belt, but we didn't find any trace what could it be.

So here are the internals on 150.000+ miles engine. Engine was driven hard. I only had it for like 30.000 miles.
I took good care of it, but I cant say the same for the guys that owned it before me.

That is it for now. Tomorrow new pics, work in progress :)

The mark on the timing belt looks like the wrong oil pan bolts were used. The oil pan bolts in the front of the engine should be shorter than the rest.

Good luck!

Don't think that is possible because when we swapped it into colt we replaced the belt with new one.
Along with other stuff. But ok, new gates racing belt is here on, so no worries.

And thank you :)

Here is interior pic when I bought it.

And bought new stereo because the ex owner took it out.

Engine is now clean and awaits Monday, when it will be sent to machine shop for treatment :)

Everything balanced, polished, block painted..
Today I got the rest of the packages at post office, will be getting them tomorrow.

Need to take GSC valve guides to machine shop so they can finish up the head.
Also new OEM oil pump that is in same package as guides will go up on the block.

Also this arrived yesterday.

IMAG0390_zpsc7adee76.jpg

Aldo some changes came up. I will not be using this flywheel.
I have TZ series kevlar clutch and what I have learned that it will not be the best combo.

So instead i ordered "Competition Clutch 4140 heat treated chromoly flywheel" that I will also pick up tomorrow from post office.

I found in Poland CXRacing division for Europe.
I ordered from them aluminum radiator with 2 slim fans and shroud. It should arrive in few days also.
Soon I will have to get all the parts to garage. Good thing my other vehicle (Galant) is SW so all will fit :D
Soon new pics of progress.

Thank you :)

I have some news.

I got the flywheel from TMZ Performance.. I was very happy, but then I counted the holes.
It was 7 bolt :(

Here are the rest parts that arrived (new OEM oil pump and GSC valve guides).

I contacted Tim, he sad he will ship a new flywheel today. But I have to wait another 3 weeks or more to get it.

The engine is coming together.

The pistons and rods were only put in for picture, they are not tighten.

Sweet build i have the same color valve cover on my car, great buy and love the cams, does the rear bumper warp in the middle ive seen so many 1gb gsx eclipses do that over time.

Haha, yes getting all the parts from US takes time :) And money! I have to pay almost 40% on tax when importing all the parts. I have been collection parts for 3 years now. Soon all of them will be up and running.
Waiting on CXRacing water cooler from Poland and flywheel from Tim and we can finish it.

No for now the bumper is in good shape, no waves.

Today I stopped at garage.
Turbo is bolted up, everything is ready, only waiting on flywheel to come from customs, so we can put it back in.
We also swapped the fuel pump and rewire it.
Just need to move the car battery into the trunk, replace motor mount inserts, change few seals on transmission and t case and thats it.

One bad news.. It seams previous owners swapped the rear diff.
It is 4 bolt, but NON LSD.. I was very sad about it.. So I went and bought EVO LSD from a member here on forum. I'm happy again :D

Alo I gave throttle body to my friend and he polished it.

Fuel rail is temporary, because we will fire it up on original injectors, ECU and MAF.
After the break in period, we will switch to other fuel rail with 850cc, ECMLINK and SD.

We fired it up last night. Just to see if all is good.
Had a few sweats, because it didn't want to build oil pressure wile cranking.
Oil pump is brand new so we had to "push" the oil through it.
Next is custom exhaust and IC pipes.

We staretd it on oem 450cc injectors and ECU.
After the brake we we will switch it over on 850cc, Ecmlink and SD.

Mishimoto radiator came in yesterday. Was fitted this morning.

On monday the exhaust and IC pipes will be finished.
On wednesday new tires arive so I can put them on.

Wheels are up :)
Having a small problem with bov. It will be dealt with on monday.
At the moment she is run on 450cc, maf and OEM ECU.
After the brake in she will go on 850cc and ECMLink with SD.

Here are some pic and short drive video.

Made first 500 miles of brake in. For now she is still on OEM maf, 450cc and ecmlink with basic setup.
Soon she will go on speed density and proper tune up.
Some of the SD goodies.

I also bought from a member here EVO rear LSD diff.
I just need to find some rear axle cups to make it work.

-tint the windows
Thats it for now.
