If you are experiencing problems that do not track to one system, or the system the problem does track to is not at fault, you may believe your ECU has gone bad. Check this before you purchase a new one:
Wire harness melted against EGR pipe
If you inspected for this, and you find that it is not your issue, try to next swap your ECU with one from the
same year vehicle and same transmission.
ECU failures are generally limited to model year '95 and some '96's, and don't happen often.
