Well, today I think I may have nearly destroyed either my tranny or clutch...Today I raced my brother's 300hp Infinity. I launched at 5300rpm and shifted at 6500rpm into 2nd...hit third and went to shift into 4th at about 65-6700rpm when I hear a pop. My brother said he saw a burst of black smoke come out the exhaust when it popped... The car felt like it went into nuetral for a second...I threw it into nuetral and went to shift back into fourth however, it did not feel right. The shifter felt very spongy and harder to go into gear...We pulled over, popped the hood and I could tell I had major clutch chatter. I decided to drive it further down to see how much damage had been done. It engages all the gears but it feels harder to go into gear (especially 3rd) but it grabs each gear. It definitely does not feel right or like it use to. I decided to drive it 25 miles to my garage and it drove fine. No unusual noises and every gear was engaging...it is just hard to get it into gear now. The clutch pedal feels the same too. Before all this it would always grind going into 5th...it still did that. Does this sound like a clutch problem...could the fork or shifter itself have been bent?? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I have the same problem and mine went as far to blow a chunks out of the side of the bell housing. Mine is a pressure plate the blew apart. The strips of metal along the outer edge of the plae came loos and went through the side os the tranny. Noe my car idles a little rough think it's due to the balancing being off with the pressure plate in pieces. It still drives I am taking it to the dealer tommorrow and have them fix it. It is still under warrn.
