Is it worth the money to shell out the 100 bucks or so for the Short Shifter for the 1G Laser N/T?
I mean is the short shifter really worth the money? or is it a waste?
Does it make much of a difference?

Damned expensive, aren't they? I spent $150 for the B&M on my 2G, and dammit, it _was_ worth it. I don't know which 1G you're looking at, but if it's like the B&M, yeah, it's worth it.

I assume you've already gone to a 2G knob instead of the horsedick?

No.. so far the shifter is the OEM.
are you referring to the leather coverd shifter knob itself?
How much of a difference cant the shifter knob itself make? I kind of like the Leather Oem knob... I thought about changing it over to a Ball type knob.

Defiant... Every Time I have a question, you always have great advice... you sir...ROCK

appreciate the info

I am seriously thinking about getting a B&M short shiter kit for my 98 GST.

Anyone have some before and after pictures on how much lower the shifter sits? I know it reduces the throw from 35-50% but how much lower is the height?

Its not worth the price if it doesn't lower it much....I want to beable to use and see my radio in 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

I found a place called cyberauto that sells it for $156 shipped.

Thanks.

if its not short enough, you can always cut it down like people do with the stock shifter.

it shortens the throw, not the heigth.

What the B&M does is relocate the pivot point (moves it higher) and moves the mount for the cable lower, effectively reducing throw distance.

The shifter sits at stock heigth.

I just installed mine a couple days ago. Nice peice with bearings to improve the stroke...but it only reduces the distance going from 1st to 2nd, and 3rd to 4th....not side-to-side, only front-to-back movement.

its been a pain for me to find the cheapest place to buy one.

I spent at least 2 hours looking for the best price and this is what I came up with - $148.50 - they quoted me $156.45 shipped.

I was a little thrown off when they labled the part as:
B&M Edge Short Shifter:
95-97, 45077, $148.50

As they say its for 95-97. But this is the same exact part number that RRE sells. I guess just a typo from them....I am going to ask for sure tomorrow. I have decided to get it.....I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them.

I know its just $6 cheaper than RRE...but hey, why spend an extra $6 if you don't have to!

Well, if you're on a budget, just cut and weld the stick.

But for a shifter, it seems only the B&M is worth is. Damned expensive, but worth it.

Save $5 a week, and buy one in August. You may run across a used one for less than the usual $150 by then.

If you're getting it now, RRE has about the best price.

their is not a big difference in height if any at all. i cut mine a bit to make it shorter. but if is a great short throw. may i also reccomend the symbroski shift kit. makes the experience even better.

I heard that the B&m short shifter puts 3rd gear right up close to the radio, i was wondering if other brands do that also? cause my cd player folds out when i open it and right now with the stock setup my hand hits it in 3rd.
